Have any of you seen the movie "Idiocracy"? Although it's a comedy, the concept is pretty frightening - stupid people breed to the extent that they end up ruling the entire world! I definitely recommend the movie if you haven't seen it. Here's a short clip of the intro:

Ohhhh man, I would have laughed more at this movie if I didn't have a voice in the back of my head going "I've SEEN that happen!" >_< I did laugh myself silly at the part where the "smartest guy on earth" had to convince the dumbasses to use water for grass because he can talk to it and the grass told him so.

Wow! This is really funny. I am not familiar with this. Is Idiocracy a full length movie?

GD, you're right - sometimes the humor is so real it's hard to laugh! SK, the movie is about an hour and a half long. The main character is played by Luke Wilson. I'm surprised the movie received so little attention, though. Maybe they were afraid of offending the breeders?

I posted about this movie a few weeks ago when I saw it for the first time - they must be showing it on the movie channels a lot lately. I didn't even hear about it when it first came out (I think it's from 2006). As much as it made me laugh, it was scary how true to life it was! If the stupid continue to multiply as rapidly as they have been, that's the way the real world could turn out!

It is showing on HBOS on the 26th (at 3:15 am) and on Saturday Feb 2nd on Cinemax (8:35 am? I think). I set it to record just now, so I'll be ready to comment on it this weekend, hopefully

Yes, I wouldn't have seen it except for the fact that my brother set it on my DVR for me because he thought I'd enjoy it. Every time I'd caught it on HBO/Cinemax, before that, it was always in the middle, and I like to watch movies from start to finish, at least the first time I see them. I have to say, my brother was right - it was funny.

I saw this movie awhile back so I can't remember everything about it but I fully agree with your comment that it's scary how true to life the movie is.

The dumbing down of the public school system assists in producing these less-than-intelligent kids. How many kids can do simple math in their heads nowadays without a calculator? How many kids can spell properly and construct proper sentences without a computer? Machines are great, believe me, I love working with computers. However, a person should not have to rely on a machine for all of their problem solving.

Add this to the list of reasons to not have children. Everytime the child comes home from school he or she would have to be deprogrammed. Why not just homeschool if this is the case? Oh, yeah, the same old excuse, "We're too busy!"...

I tried to push the brutal satire to the side and enjoy the laugh, but the thinly veiled truth that was hinted at kept creeping into my mind. It was an hilarious, well-done if unsettling film that the studio almost seemed to bury. I wondered why it was not promoted more, then I thought about how it poked fun at lots of big brands (Fatburger) and made presidents the butt of some of the jokes. I would have to guess that you narrow your possibilities for sponsorship in cases like that.

On a (slight) aside, one of the reasons I love this forum so much is that there are so many highly articulate people here who can spell and write using properly-constructed sentences. I love the English language (languages in general, whether alive or dead, in fact), and it pains me to see it mangled. So thank you, everyone, for making this forum so easy on the eye!
