What age range are you looking at? Do you know what her likes are, what she has read in the past?

If she's around 10 I'd recommend the Nancy Drew mysteries. A bit older, the Harry Potter series. 8 or 9 - the Bobbsey Twins. More: 9 or older, Island of the Blue Dolphin; The Education of Little Tree.

If you are talking about a teen, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a great book, and there are related books like Second Summer of the Traveling Pants, and so on....
If you are talking pre teen there is a series out called Clique I believe they are numbered and it tells all about being in the popular clique and how even the popular girls are insecure about staying popular.
for the younger ones I like the classics - Dr Seuss, Berenstein Bears things like that

They may seem a little old-fashioned or slightly dated to modern pre-teens, but I love The Boxcar Children books. When I read how they survived under poor circumstances it gave me the feeling that I COULD be self-reliant and made me want to take charge.
Books still have that effect on me; whatever might be happening I'm THERE. I love to read a book where the character is enjoying cleaning house because it makes my chores more pleasant! Whenever I crank up the dishwasher I remember a line I read in a story once that described the "happy chuckle of the dishwasher" and it makes me smile sometimes when I push the wash button. Ok, now I've outed myself as a crackpot! HA

I LOVE NANCY DREW AND I LOVE THE BOXCAR CHILDREN.
I'll tell you another cute book that is out, in fact the sequel just came out - "Diary of a Wimpy Kid".

I also just bought some books written by Beverly Cleary. Amazon.com is having a sale where you get four for the price of three.
