Charlie Vandergaw first came to the attention of Alaskans last year when the Anchorage Daily News did an article on him and the bears that live around his place. The photos accompanying the story were amazing. Now a British film company has made a documentary on him and apparently captured some great footage of his relationship with bears. Is this going to end up as another Timothy Treadwell tale?

Here's the link to the current ADN article, which includes links to the previous article, photos, and some video clips. Enjoy!

Yes, I remember seeing that article and the pictures were amazing. I think that however, it is possible for people and animals to bond to a certain degree.

I remember reading a story years ago of an elderly lady who was a wildlife rehabilitator. She took care of a female grizzly when it was a cub and was very sick. As the cub grew stronger, they felt it was time to release it into the wild. So they did. Years later, this same female came to this woman's door and dropped off her cub who had an injured paw. As the woman opened the door and saw the bear that she had taken care of, she was in shock. The female mother stood back and watched as the lady took care of her little one, and then left the cub in the ladies care.
Two days later, the mother returned to find her baby was just fine and the paw was doing good, the lady released the cub and it returned to it's mother and the lady watched as they walked away never to be seen again. This proves that animals have memories.

Thanks for sharing that story. Kind of like a modern Androcles and the Lion. Where did that take place?
