Have any of you used these? Did your kids like them? Did you have them write some sort of journal or report or something after?

When my kids are interested in something we may pop up a virtual tour. I dont usually make them do something around it unless they want to. Sometimes they just want to see how something is made without the fuss of my "over-educationalizing" it.

Now, if it's part of a unit study (such as a valley forge tour, for instance) they usually add it to their notes or write about what they saw, maybe print out a picture or two and write captions for a scrapbook. They're generally more open to the caption writing or adding the photos to something they've already written in a report or narration notebook, maybe a lapbook or whatever.

There is a whole yahoo group devoted solely to virtual field trips. I dont recall the name of it now but if you can't find it through a search LMK and I'll look in my other email and get it for you.

Yes we have looked at some of these, I must admit the ones we have loved have been exceedingly quirky and eccentric! One we'll never forget is a UK one where we worked with my very great friend !! Isambard Kingdom Brunel, to help him hire the best staff for his Giant Iron Ship ! We had to help him make decisions at Board meetings and fire people ! It was great. Tiverton Museum UK if anyone else is as quirky as us! (We are now helping to design one for The Great Exhibition, London.) More later!!

The European museums appear to have some of the better virtual tours/field trips. I'll have to check out the Tiverton online.

I really should keep better records of these.... there was another excellent quality one which had the students put together an antique hand-made willow chair online!! It may have been the Arts and Crafts Movement site, or William Morris.

This week we have visited 3 Danish ones...... more next week!

For history try Battlefield Academy (BBC) absolutely brilliant for really engaging boys in history and historical thinking! Help Boadicea beat the Romans etc......

Good Luck!

The European museums are the best as far as virtual tours go. My son uses this, and I can't say I've spent much time with it, but it seems interesting.
