Have many of you read Orson Scott Card's 'Ender's Game'?

I thought it was brilliant and went on to read the companion novel 'Ender's Shadow'. If you haven't read them and like Sci-Fi books I would highly recommend it. Excellent writing, great ideas through it, and very emotionally engaging too.

I hear that there are many other novels in the same universe. Has anyone read them all? What do you think of them - is it worth reading them all???

Also - I would highly recommend Joe Haldeman's 'Forever War'. This book is a brilliantly written piece of work, really dense and full of interesting ideas.

I really enjoyed Ender's Game and the companion. I didn't enjoy so much the later novels in the series, they were different sorts of stories, even though they continued the ongoing plot.

David Feintuch has a series that starts with Midshipman's Hope that's a fun read in a similar vein.

I picked up the paperback at a used sale a while back but haven't read it yet. I read some of Card's short fiction a while back and didn't really like it, so I think that's why I haven't started Ender's Game yet. But I've never heard a bad review of it. It's really funny that this thread comes up now - because I literally just read it last month.

My 16 yr old was assigned to read it for his lit class in high school. I like to keep up with what they are reading, plus he hates to read, so I always read whatever books he is assigned (if I haven't already) so I can discuss them with him - and make sure he is actually reading it!

I loved it! It was gone in 2 days. It probably would have taken me less time, except I did have to give it back to him for school. I could just see him explaining to his teacher, "sorry, I don't have my book because my mom stole it!"
