Sure, Eve.

For something like this, pictures are worth a thousand words.

I think these instructions will get you through it okay, but if not, i'll check back soon to see if you have any questions.

Working with dpns is kind of intimidating at first and it's really, really awkward. Just keep reminding yourself that you're really only knitting on 2 needles at a time. The first round or two are the hardest because the stitches tend to be a little loose on the needles and so it's easy to drop stitches. Once you're past the third row or so, you'll have gotten into a rhythm and have (hopefully) figured out a way of managing the needles that you're not using... There's a sock knitting tutorial on the Lime 'n Violet Daily Chum that might be helpful for showing one way of managing the "hanging" needles.BellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. A few people get "runs" where they switch needles. It doesn't happen to everyone, but after you get about an inch, if your knitting looks visibly different where you switch needles, try pulling your yarn more snuggly when switching needles.

Are there any videos available that will show how to knit with double pointed needles. I look at the site you gave me but I still don't get it. And how do you switch back and for from circular needles and double pointed needles and visa versa.

Thanks so much for you help. I feel kind of dumb.

Do you mean videos other than the one i linked? You might try googling "free double point knitting tutorial" or something like that.

Don't let all the points scare you. Many things in knitting make more sense after you give it a try. It's not so hard, really. It's pretty much what you've been doing. You only focus on two points at a time. Give it a try.

As for switching between circular and double points all you do is pick up the needle you want to get the work onto, and continue knitting (old needle in the left hand, new needle in the right) and continue as you were (knitting or purling or whatever).

Many people knit these days. If you ask at your yarn shop you may find a knitting group near you.
