I crochet some for my daughter & myself. But most of my crocheting I give away. Right now I have 2 baby afghans to make -- I need to have them by the end of September. The school librarian wants a couple of crochet towel toppers. Otherwise, I make afghans - baby to lapghan size - to donate.

I give my work away. Most items are prayer shawls that go to people I don't know. The rest are gifts for friends.

I crochet for the enjoyment and usually give it away. I am trying to break the habit and actually sell some of my stuff though these days.

What a good question! I now REFUSE to crochet for my husband after he thought that a waistcoat I crocheted him was a joke. As if I would spend months (OK hours!) slaving away just as a joke! Anyway, his loss (although he may dispute that !!).

Jacquiw - how are you selling your work - online or through craft markets, or word of mouth etc?

At the moment i can sell thru a friend who has a market stall and another who has a store in town. That being said i have had people tell me to sell online and offer to sell stuff through their web sites which is nice of them, but i am a bit wary of the internet, as i am new to the computer and don't understand it much.I was going to start making up a lot of things and go into business a bit more seriously this year, but have had the drought to contend with as i have no water to wash my fleeces and some health issues with my dh as well. Tendonitis means i can't turn out the amount of articles i really need to, to have a serious shot at selling. So my girlfriend who is a knitter and makes quite different one off items and myself have decided we will make what we can this year and maybe do a road trip to the southern cooler states next year to find an outlet to sell through. She has found she sells more for better prices in and around Newcastle area and i have friends in Wollongong who have connections with the markets there. My son is making me a web site and wants me to sell on the net but as i said i'm a bit nervous about it yet.

I crochet to sell my items to fund my yarn habit... but end up selling too cheap to have made anything or I just give it away...

No one asked me, I'm just butting in. lolol I knit and crochet all the time. I'm 75 and need something to do. I made a ton of hats and mitten for my Santa Cop friend to take to needy kids. And also I made the little soft dolls for them too. I love to do it and I love even more giving to someone who has nothing! Is that a sentence? lololol

I crochet for my daughters, grand daughters, husband and my dogs.
My husband loves my slippers and the dogs tolerate the sweaters. LOL

I guess I crochet for me. I never keep the stuff or sale it (although I do sale the patterns), I just do it for the challenge. I love taking something never seen in crochet and then turning it into crochet. The harder the better. My last big sucess (in my opinion) was a dog with fleas. The dog is the carrying case- like a stuffie-open and you reveal 3" thread fleas. One set has a farmer and his wife while the other is circus themed.

Now that I write this, maybe I should change it to I crochet for the challange!
