We decided to go get Mexican at a great restaurant that is very popular with families. We got seated next to a family with four children ages approx. 2 - 8. I was like, "great, this is going to be a nightmare."

The parents were WELL prepared. They had tons of games to occupy the kids while they waited for their dinner. The only time I noticed them was when the oldest had to maneuver around the table to get to her dad to play a game, and she bumped into the chairs we weren't using. No biggie.

Unlike the kid in the booth next to them, the 4-year-old who spent the entire meal punching his father in the head. How cute!

We went to see National Treasure. It was good fun. There were about 3 older kids in the theater and it was a 7:30 show! Yay!

It was a fantastic evening, and tomorrow morning the beagle we were sitting is GOING HOME!! YAY! It's been a nightmare with three dogs. She needs constant supervision, it's been like having a kid. I sought advice from a dog trainer I know. None of his suggestions were worth anything. Why? Because if she does something and you're supposed to distract her with a toy, guess what? She doesn't chew toys! She doesn't care! She doesn't chew bones, she doesn't chew stuffed animals. No. She only chews shoes and socks and sweaters.

By now she must think her name is AbbeyNO!

Isn't sitting fun? I had a border collie X over Xmas, he was lovely and everyone loved him except the other dog (which when you're looking to adopt him full time, isn't really a good thing). But he had a host of bad habits that I'd never let mine get away with, not the least of which was jumping on the furniture and beds (a HUGE no no in my house).

So he bowls into the bedroom the first day he's there, leaps up and plops down right next to the cats. I can only wish I'd had a camera to capture the look of horror.

I'm sure that he thought his name was Zack-no by the time he went home as well ...

Ooh ooh! My DH and I sat for two young labs for our friends. Our poor weenie dog was very upset at all the big, clumsy dogs knocking him around. He was a ball of nerves by the time the labs left, poor thing.

WARNING: GROSS ALERT

But the worst part was that the biggest lab had explosive diarrea all over our living room. I had to shampoo the carpet and clean every surface, including the walls, to the CEILING.

Now I sit for them at their own house.

Nice CF evening, Ingilbert! What luck that the parents at the restaurant were actually parents and not just breeders.

And thank goodness the dog's going home! I'm not a dog person - we have one cat and he's our pride and joy. We dogsat over the holidays and it wasn't too bad, but it made me realize that we definitely don't want a dog. Another time we dogsat DH's grandma's dog, and she ate some of my laundry - I won't go into the part she ate. How gross is that?

My neighbor has a big bulldog who loves to eat her underwear and nylon stockings.

My young red heeler liked tearing up my underwear for a while...fortunately CLEAN underwear, fresh out of the dryer. I quickly learned to put them away as soon as they came out of the dryer! That got expensive! LOL! He likes dryer sheets too...must be something about the texture.

Haha! Well, I guess I shouldn't have left my laundry on the floor where she could get at it - she'll eat kleenex if you don't throw it out immediately. At least having a dog makes me even more sure about being CF. If I can't handle a DOG, what would that mean for a kid?

I think all people who want to become parents should be licensed. You need a license in WA to cut hair and drive a car - isn't having a kid even more of an impact on others?

Trisharoni- sounds like a good idea, except most people would fail the licensing requirements and just have kids anyway.

My weenie dog used to grab my underwear and parade proudly through the house with it. *rolls eyes*

True that, which brings me to my next point - I had an idea once that people should be sterilized so that they can only have a child once they've proven they are capable of parenthood by becoming a "licensed parent". This is my own confrontational view. I'm all for less government control, but something has to be done about it before the stupid over-breed to the point that the human race's IQ drops substantially. See "Idiocracy". I know we talked about it before on this forum, but as much as the movie made me laugh, it almost seemed like it was telling the future.

I doubt my "licensed parent" program would EVER catch on, and I'm not sure if I really would want to see that much control, but it's an interesting thought, huh? Wow, if there are any mommy-lurkers out there, I'm gonna get an earful (or is it an eyeful?).

Trisharoni, you might just get an earful from the mommy-lurkers, but the sterilization-until-licensed idea is one that my DH and I have mentioned as being a good way to ward off the effects of the stupid people breeding too rapidly and taking over, like in "Idiocracy." smile I'm sure many find this extreme, but it just seems like common sense to us.

We love cats (that's why we have 6!), and we both love dogs (though I love them more than DH), but we're not adopting any dogs any time soon. They would be a lot more work, and if we think cuddly, cute doggies would be more work than we want, then what would kids be? smile

Another example of why I'm glad to be CF - last night, my DH & I watched our beloved LSU Tigers win the College Football BCS National Championship, and b/c the game was dragged out by the many commercials on Fox, we got to bed much too late for how early we both have to get up for our jobs, yet we both went to work today as complete zombies, happy ones, but zombies for sure. As a contrast, a co-worker was up much too late b/c of a sick toddler throwing up all night - I felt bad for him and for his kid, don't get me wrong, but I would much rather be tired for the reasons that I am than for the reasons that he is.
