Has anyone seen the movie "Juno"?
**spoiler alert**
It's about a teen girl, Juno, who unexpectedly gets pregnant and decides to give the baby up for adoption. I rather enjoyed the film - the story was well done and the acting was great.
There was one scene that really bothered me, though. Right after Juno has the baby in hospital, her father is comforting her and says something like "Don't worry, some day you will be back here on your own terms." I thought this was a horrible thing to say to a young girl who just experienced an unwanted pregnancy/birth. Especially, right after she just had the baby! Way to go, bingo-ing your daughter after she just delivered an unwanted baby. The father was trying to be supportive, but if I were in her shoes that is the last thing that would make me feel better!
The people I was watching the movie with didn't pick up on this, so I was just wondering if I'm alone in this observation?
If you haven't seen the film, it is very interesting and entertaining. I would still recommend it regardless of this one scene.

Haven't seen it yet, but I want to see it. I'm not surprised they couldn't resist including some good old fashioned pro baby sentiment.

BUT, I'm SO glad they have a movie about someone giving a baby up for adoption. I hope adoption catches on again for the gals that are too young to take on parenting. Or, gasp, maybe it will encourage teenagers to use birth control once they show how painful childbirth is! I hope they show that part in the movie!

There's not much gory "birthing" details, but they certainly don't glorify pregnancy in the movie. If anything, I think it would be a cautionary tale for young girls to use birth control. I'm also glad they showed adoption as an alternative. It has a lot of thought provoking themes throughout the movie.

That's great - I'm so glad they didn't glorify pregnancy! I don't think they've shown adoption in a movie in a long time. I think it's great.

I saw Juno tonight, and LOVED it. It's very funny. As you all know, she finds adoptive parents for her baby. And it turns into a classic situation where the wife really wants a baby, and the husband doesn't. And, the wife frames it like the husband is immature because he still has things he wants to do. He's a musician, and she makes fun of him, and said they won't be able to have a baby until he's Kurt Cobain. It reminded me of the some of the bingos we get - "you won't be a real adult until you have kids," etc. But the guy was talented, and wrote music for a living. It wasn't like he was chasing after an unattainable dream. It was another one of those situations where the couple isn't that compatible, and probably didn't talk about kids much before they got married.

I highly recommend this movie for its comedic value alone. The main character is really lovable. The fact that things are working out for the adoptive parents puts her into a tail spin, and she starts questioning whether relationships can last. Aside from the getting pregnant in high school, this gal's character is wise beyond its years. I wonder if teenagers are really that perceptive today!

SPOILER ALERT - I just saw "Juno" tonight. I thought it was great. It's been nominated for an Academy Award, too, but I don't think it's violent enough or edgy enough to win. There were plenty of funny moments, and heartwarming ones, too. I thought it was interesting how the adoptive mother's obsession with motherhood ended up being a factor that drove her husband away. It was like he was going along with it because she wanted to be a mom so bad, but when it was evident it was going to be a reality, he got cold feet. It really was a cute movie, and watch for more great things from lead actress Ellen Page (also Academy Award nominated for this performance).
