things are gonne look bad for us look what i found on 1 of the ffXI sites

1.3) Can I play ' FFXI' without an internet connection?
Regrettably, unlike the previous game (X), you cannot play this one without the internet. 'FF XI ' was programmed with prerequisite internet connectivity. We would like everyone to taste the enjoyment of playing online, communicating and adventuring with other players, and advancing in an always-active world.

So to me it wont work as its a long game(bit like this post) where as most online games are short in comparison!!!!

Have you ever playd everquest? Some people have logged 1000's of hours into that game. I spent about 200 hours playing it to no avail all i gained was a couple thousand plat some gear and my intellectual property did me no good. I just gave my account away though.

The point of multi-player games is that you use your own imagination to design the plot. It sounds like maybe you guys have never role-played or D&D? The whole beauty of that kind of game is that it's open ended, and that the people you play with aren't just pre-programmed robots that say the exact same thing regardless of anything that you do. Humans are way better to play with than a little robot

Yes, there are in fact cut scenes in in these games too! There are quests, and subquests, and special weapons to find, special people to meet. But the beauty is that when you do all the quests, they *add more*. The game is never ending

If you really, truly and honestly can't stand playing with other people, just buy the add-ons for FFX (there will be 2) and/or skip over FFXI and buy FFXII. But I bet you if you get on FFXI with an open mind that you'll have a *blast* finally playing with people that can truly challenge you - other humans.

one thing though Lisa how can you communicate & play at the same time, obviously it cant be turn based so while I'm trying to ask someone to watch by back or give cover fire(just examples) I'm already been shot before I press Enter
The way the really big games usually work is by voice when you see them all with the silly head gear which looks better placed at a call centre!!!
but it mentions nothing like this in fact it just emphisises the fact of typing stuff!!!!
and have they confirmed a stotyline for the follow ons One will deffinatley be Rikku & Yuna trying to find Tidus(the another story thing)

I'm not looking for infinite longivity in a game. Any game must have a beginning and an ending. I'm looking for a story. And I do not want to become worthlessly addicted to this game and long after that ask myself "Why?". GTAIII, a great game, really is. But after you've completed the story line missions, for how much longer can you really keep on wandering around the three islands, blowing up things, messing up with cops, setting some trully "best of Action movie" situations and so on? Yes, you'll fid a few hidden packages, go on rampages or try to make a unique jump, but will you really be doing it before you get the 100% of the game? I doubt it. And here, the game is more or less the same from the very beginning. Open ended, "do whatever pleases discriminating mind" and so on? For how long will you keep on doing the quests? "Bring to 15 emerald gems to an old man to get a reward", "Go protect the old man's sheeps against some orges", "Go find that lost ring", is that really the essence of FINAL FANTASY? One day we have a (more or less) perfectly told story with all the elements you need, but a bit too linear and the other we have a "time waster". I'm sorry, but I trully think that people have not yet reached the level to make an online RPG that would be just as good as single player game in respective aspects. A game without an ending and a purpose (like the above mentioned "The Sims") tend to bore you quite fast. And by the way, I'd say that it is very pricey as well. $20 a month you say? The would be the "least". So, it's a whole new game every two months. I would definitely prefer that. Anyway, this debate is hardly ever ending, because I'm talking to "reeeal people and not the little robots" I'm not violating your right to choose, I'm just explaining WHY when the game comes out, there will be a drastic change in followers lineup. I'm not the only one complaining about it, am I? I don't really care actually since I won't be having enough time to play games (and especially THIS kind of games where you have to sit for hours), so all these are just reflections and not real complains.

I suggest everyone to tell 10 games they loved in all their lifes. Any, computer and console. Think carefully.

I will start:

Blade Runner, FallOut1, FallOut2, Sonic The Hedgehog, Batman Returns, Deus-Ex, Thief 2, Defcon 5, Metal Gear Solid 2, GTAIII. (There may be more, but these just a few to name). We could discuss the most popular games here if anyone wishes.

I dont know about pying 20 a month for it, did that guy mean for a broadband connection maybe??
I think once you buy the game - I hope , that you can then playt online as much as you wish,
Anyway if the squaresoft team use the same imagination, creativity, talent, and originality from FFX that they managed to amaze me with, then FFXI will probably be a little short of Amazing or should I say a little more than amazing.
I can imagine they have thought of all these problems and cenarios, and yes maybe the gameplay will require a different attitude towards it, but I think predict they will create a game that once you get the hang of it, will be one of the most fun games ever.

Hi just want to say sasa.

bosses - I think if the bosses dissapeared entirely after they were defeated it wouldn't give much credit for whatever effort was put into designing it. What the pplz at squarsoft might have decided to do is to give each boss a lag time for when it respawns again, such as, in Dark Age of Camelot. An example is if there's some major boss, it takes about a week for it to respawn again.

It seems pretty obvious that most people here (at least in this post) don't like the concept for upcoming game, which could partially be due to the fact that they will have a lot less control, in the sense that with final fantasy you could always not play, and the fiends will still be of the same difficulty, whilst in the new one everyone will be taking advantage of your absence and lvl up.
It seems that part of the appeal of the former FFs, is that YOU get to be the hero, YOU get to be the king of the hill, whereas in this case there will always be some addicted freak, (or should I say, dedicated patron), who will be playing 24/7 and will always be better than you.
It's pretty obvious that the FF people down at squaresoft aren't trying to recapture the "essence of Final Fantasy," rather, they're going with the latest craze in computer gaming in which you live in an online world. They've acknowledged that this what seems to be the 'in' thing at the moment and are trying to cash in on it, with or without some of the fans of true FFs, to attract some new gamers into the Final Fantasy series. Hey, they know we'll at least be back for FF12 and the add-ons.

"It's all about the Benjamin's, baby!"

dunno which order my fave gaes would go in but I used to like a game called cops & robbers for the old atari 64XE then for the same machine was Leaper that was cool(**humms popcorn tune**) mind you three really addictive games for the spectrum 128k was technician ted,jet set willy and batty(ahhh when gaming was simple)mind you the new games are good too only good game for dreamcast I ever played on was Midnight Club, then for the PS well too many to list but the whole of the Res Evil series and the FF series (those I've played on) and I liked Silver for the PC(I know there's more than 10 but hey I cant decide which I like more)

anyway I'm in agreeance with AINTD like I've said before I can play off line games and still chat to everyone here, and good point what is the point of playing a game that never ends!!!!

speaking from a totally offline gamer how do these games get saved because if there are thousands of players then your computer must have to load it from somewhere obviously it would be too large for a memory card??? 1 other thing what would happen if the connection broke, or the system got overloaded it crashed, it wont be like a big game where there's usually a set point where you go and make a cup of tea so the power company cranks up the output, as there will always be someone awake playing somewhere!!!
but say your playing and you connection gets lost bad weather lets say will you resume from your last save or will your data be corrupted like if the power goes half way thru a save????
