Hi everyone - this is Marilee, and I am a newbie. I have two bettas - a boy and girl named Sonny Boy and Girlie Girl. Sonny is a pastel with gorgeous blue fins and Girlie is vibrant red. I have had both of them almost a year and they travel with me whenever I go on road trips! They have their own travel containers and they love going wherever I go. I swear they look out the window at the scenery!! I just let the two of them spawn, and while the spawning went well - the fry didnt fare too well. She laid about 300 eggs, and the fry just kept dying! Sonny did all he was supposed to do - he is such a good father! Never ate one of the babies! I have about 12 - 15 fry that are still alive and eating well. I am getting ready to start them on baby brine shrimp. Hopefully they will continue to thrive. It was heartbreaking to see all my fry dead at the bottom of the tank. I have done alot of reading about it and see that its a trial and error process. Going to wait a month or two and let them try again. Right now they are in their individual tanks getting lots of medicine and food. I took the most amazing picture of them spawning - I will have to share! Anyway - thats my story and I am so happy to find a place to talk about my favorite fish on the planet!! If any of you have tips on spawning, that would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Wow! We would love, love, love to see those photos!!! Where have you taken them on their road trips? What type of containers do they travel in? How do you secure their travel containers while in the car/truck/bus/_______ ? Congratulations on your new kids! (Grandkids?)

Wow! You're brave to breed them! Good for you! How did your fry do? What happened when you tried again? Let us know!

Hi All! My name is David Francis. My pet fish include a 60 gallon reef aquarium which includes a few different species of various colored button polyp colonies, a Copperband Butterfly fish named Kaleb, a Sailfin Blenny named Bernie, a Bicolor Blenny named Phantom, an Ocellaris Clownfish - we gave him a rather traditional name which is Nemo, we also have a Yellowtail Damselfish named Blue Boy, and a Blue Damselfish name Marina. The aquarium also includes a few red legged and blue legged hermit crabs. It is our office aquarium. We also have a 1 gallon freshwater aquarium with an orange Betta Fish, his name is Pixybob. I have been a freshwater and saltwater aquarium hobbyist/enthusiast for many years, and am the first to admit I don't know it all, and am still constantly learning in this vast hobby. It was pleasure to introduce myself to everyone, and I hope to have some great conversations to come.

Welcome David Francis. It's always nice to meet someone who loves fish and aquariums. It is so cute that you name your fish. It seems you have a variety of fish, and I bet it looks nice in the office.

Hi, PJK56, What kind of fish do you have? Do you have some photos of them to post? That would be so great! Yes, have you named your fish? We all do. Some of my fish are named Bubbles, Finnyagain, Hemingway, Flounder, and Nim!

And, oh yes, they do look out and around and love to see the activity going on outside their aquarium world. It's nice when they can live in a great aquarium with all the right water conditions and then, in addition to that, have the added benefit of the friendly hustle and bustle of usual happy daily activities going on around them. They have their own little fishy world, but they are no longer wild animals - they love to be a part of our lives, too - because... they are! >)))'>
