I have had bipolor disorder for most of my life and my "normal" sister thinks because of that, that she can put me in some kind of "home" or facility to get rid of me well I admit that I am not the best housekeeper, and I am lousy with money but I can dress myself and do the best I can taking care of my elderly parents, my question is, is there a legal paper that I can sign so she can't just lock me away like I am yesterday's trash. Also she disapproves of my boyfriend who is currently incarcirated in state prison for a crime he did not commit and since she is the one is taking care of my parents estate she threatens to not give me anything if I stay with him, I am 48 years old and he is nearly 38 he will be out in September 2009 I need to know if I have rights despite her threats I am on SSI and can function on my own Help I want to have a safe place to live in the future without her interference (she is also in charge of an accout that will be set up in Long Beach with my money so I can get a mobile home of my own, when I need this money does she have the right to hold because of who I am with)

I also am bipolar and take 900mg of seroquel, a day I've raised 4 children with my disorder, and i also am on SSI disability
you sound "more normal" then your sister. define normal. check with legal aid. your an adult and seem to be able to care for your self just fine. even "normal" people don't handle their money well. you would need to be evaluate by a psychiatrist I would think before any one can send you away to some kinda facility. good luck

Thank you for the information I have also had trouble with handling my finances (I spend money like water and have done some horrible things in my past) My first boyfriend was very abusive and this new one has no money which allowed me to think that I could take what was not mine to take. I have since been going to church, attending meetings and trying to find a psychiatrist that will help me in other ways so I can have a home of my own when my parents pass away, my sister will never trust me and I need help to relieve her of the responsibility of my affairs after my parents pass. Help!

Its amazing how many people who are in prison didn't commit the crime. I think that might be what concerns your sister. That he is trying to take advantage of you. The fact you are on SSI benefits due to being bipolar says that you have steady money coming in, he could very well be trying to get a free meal ticket and looks at your parents money as something he wants to get his hands on.

No one is going to commit you against your will unless you meat the criteria for admission. They aren't going to lock you up purely on your sisters word.

Yes I do admit that a lot of people who are in prison say that they didn't do it, but I have known this man since 2002 and he is not a bad person and doesn't deserve to be in prison, although personally I think that he is safer there, as for the money thing yes he was in it for the money at first but now I don't believe that he is now, but I am going to watch and wait since he has not written me in nearly a month Hey I love him a lot but my life cannot be put on hold for the next three years I have to move on and he has to find Jesus Christ like I did which I believe in my heart he will.

I have a younger sister and she thinks i cant even take care of myself. I have schizoaffective disorder which is depression, bipolar, and schizophrenia. I get my highs and lows and i also hallucinate. My family dont even come and see me anymore, I have to see them. I dont think that is right.

I forgot to say, I dont have any children but i am on SSI because I am disabled.
