Sue--I so wanted to go to rehab for smokers! LOL--why not? Everybody else gets to go away and do therapy and have free time and throw withdrawal tantrums in front of strangers, why not smokers?

If you don't use the patch, it's important to understand the whole withdrawal thing. Cut way, way back on caffeine and drink diluted cranberry juice every hour or so the first couple of days. Nicotine inhibits caffeine somehow, so you need much less caffeine without nicotine. So, your usual caffeine will make you really jittery and wired, and you don't need that.

The cranberry juice is for blood sugar--nicotine keeps your blood sugar elevated (hence why smokers tend to eat less) and for me that was what felt so awful only I didn't know what it was the first few times I tried to quit. You can certainly use another kind of juice if you like. This is also the reason a lot of people gain weight.

Good luck! I'm so proud of you!

After hypnosis in May, I quit smoking for a month. Prior to that, I couldn't even go 24 hours. I gained about 8 pounds, and one night while at a bar, I just gave in. Lost 10 pounds since then, back to smoking. I just wasn't ready to give it up...I really like it. But for those who are definitely ready, I'd recommend hypnosis. It worked for me; unfortunately (I guess) I simply made a conscious decision to start again.

As far as my New Year's Resolution -- to be more involved with Christ. I pray, I just don't listen very often. And while I thank Him constantly for the gifts in my life, my relationship with Christ is quite one-sided (how would you like a relationship with your friend where all she did was send thank-you notes and e-mails)? I'm going to make more time for Him by reading and praying more and inviting Him into my life more.

To follow, adhere to and live by the five precepts (it's a buddhist thing) and - to stop - eating - meat.
Also, to show the same amount of Unconditional Love, and Universal Compassion I wouldn't mind getting ....

easy-peasy!

EDIT NOTE: Just in case anyone is interested, this website will clarify what I mean by the 'Five Precepts'. There are further links to elaborate on some points. i include this by way of an explanation and clarification, as a point of interest, nothing more. Enjoy.

That's a very good suggestion about the smoking Angela. I've heard hypnosis is good for other things also.

i think i can relate to your New Year's resolution. Sometimes it's a challenge for us to receive good in our lives. I know i struggle with it... good fortune is around, but sometimes i don't let it in my life. I think it's a self esteem issue... perhaps i don't feel deserving.

I know many people who are involved in The Law of Attraction are aware that we have to be open to receiving the good.

I'm one of those laws of attraction people. Once I became certified as a Christian Life Coach, my belief in LoA became even more solidified. LoA is a Biblically based concept. Ask and ye shall receive it. Have faith in the unseen, etc. Positive thoughts equal positive things because thoughts do in fact become things. This is one of the reasons most New Year's resolutions do NOT work. When we set about the task to resolving to do something in the New Year, we usually do so out of fear, guilt or because we think we should. It is hardly ever because you truly want to, even if it is a positive change that you know is good for you in the long run; i.e. stop smoking.

The best advice I can offer on how to set a resolution is to listen to your inner voice. When you get a resolution in your head, stop and take a moment to decide who's voice is telling you to resolve to make a change. Ask yourself some difficult questions. Is it really important to you? Does it fall into your personal mission? How committed am I to moving forward with this? What can I do to ensure my success? What can get in the way? Who do I have for support? Is it too big? Is there something that I can do in the short-term that will help me to get there later?

Answering these key questions can help you to decide if your resolution is viable and you will also have a basis for a working action plan. Once you have decided upon your resolution, break it into small parts. I like to use Marcia Wieder 's method of creating WOWs - things that can be accomplished within one week. Working in this manner helps to make your goal seem closer and it ensures that you will actually be doing something every week that will eventually achieve it.

I will be doing some more indepth work on this topic tomorrow in a special live edition of my radio show, Building Bridges . Feel free to join me.

Actually, no it isn't.
There is much in the LoA that is also based on far older teachings and concepts, but much of these teachings and concepts have been slightly tweaked to render them more conducive to personal success, rather than focussing on the altruistic.
Whilst I will completely agree that much of what you read in the LoA can be interpreted to echo biblical instruction, it's not exclusive to Christian teaching.

Thank you.

I hope your radio show goes well, and that you receive positive feedback. being in the UK, i'm afraid i'll have to take a rain-check....!
happy new year!

Does it matter where it came from?

I think good ideas crop up again and again in different cultures and in different times. Sometimes this is simply because they are archtypes, or the needs of people are similar. Writing, for instance, was invented four times in the history of the world.

At other times there was an influence from a previous source, but each author and tradition contributes it's own mark.

Well said. I could not agree with you more.
Now, if she had said that, I wouldn't have commented.
But as she seemed to be making a definitive statement, I thought I'd clarify....

That was all.

How is everyone doing on their first day of the year?

I went to bed last night after i heard firecrackers and pots banging. I had trouble sleeping, but at least i tried. smile

Now what can i do to have an "outstanding attitude" today?
