We send out a picture with me, my husband, and our dog. Last year we had 2 dogs and so we had to take one of the 2 of us, and one of the 2 dogs for logistical reasons. Everyone got 2 pictures. I think of the yearly Christmas picture as sort of a milestone an want to make it a family tradition. However, I am the only person I know that sends out a picture of myself. I think it helps me stay better connected- and me and hubby have ended up on people's fridges. One our our friends moved out of state- met and got married to a man that we had never met- and he knew us right away and said- yes you two are on our fridge! Nice to meet you! And our friends out of state who have small kids- they can open the card and show the kids- remember our friends X and Y? See this is them and they sent us a card.... Blah Blah Blah.
I like getting pictures and wish more people would send them. And if we get a card from someone who has a kid, without a picture, I do feel a little cheated.
Now y'all are right and the whole family should be in it, but I'll take what I can get.
And I agree- why send an unflattering picture? What is wrong with people?

OMG, just watching ellen degeneris' show, and she just showed a Christmas baby photo montage! Of course, all the babies are sans parents. One had an older sibling in the pic with it.

Today I heard on a radio show some horrible Christmas letters people had sent in. One was about how the mom went somewhere with her young daughter and they had to use the bathroom. Mom went "peep" first, and the little girl wanted "to go peep on your peep." That was just part of the letter, but ICK! Why on EARTH would a kid want to go pee on her mom's pee? And why would you write that in a Christmas letter? This is wrong on so many levels.

It's outrageous to talk about bodily fluids in a Christmas greeting. Whatever! People are nuts!

I think this might be a US thing... I think I've only ever recieved one card with people I knew on it.. and that was a bit odd. Saying that.. last year I did take a photo of my cat with tinsel shoved on his head.. and he looked so grumpy... I had the caption 'Merry f**king christmas' and sent it to all of my friends.... They appreciated it :-D

I think you're right, Linux Lady...I too am completely unfamiliar with the concept of 'Hi this is us - again - one year on... but we've changed places to see whether you were paying attention...."
I couldn't personally think of a worse thing to inflict on those i know and love (at least once a year) than a photograph of our united, smiling, happy family, on this one day of the year (whilst we're hateful, nasty, dysfunctional and vitirolic the other 364....) # Just kidding - ! In case anyone wants to do a bit of impromptu Christmas counselling....!

Speaking of holiday cards, we got one on Christmas Eve with a picture of my cousin's new baby on it that just completely irked us, and then we got to my parents' house, and everyone who was there and saw the card, including my grandma and great-aunt were irked too - it was a card that was otherwise kind of a cute idea, announcing the baby as the new parents' favorite gift, but the baby was naked with a bow on her bottom! It was freaky, and I just wanted to share. Can you imagine what this little one will do when she's grown up and sees this card? I would hate it if I were her!

that is slightly freaky. I didn't take naked pictures of my kids when they were babies, but I know a lot of people who do. I know one person whe actually has her pictures hanging in a frame on the wall. Weird right? I thought it was just me.

Wow. That's really weird. I can see taking a few naked pictures here and there for memory's sake, but keeping them private. My parents took some of us bathing or whatever, when we were babies, that are nice for us to have. But it should be done with some taste and respect!
