I am extremely frustrated right now. I was sick in 2005 with glandular fever, 2006 with coxsackie virus. I was off of work for two months at the start of 2006. Went back to work too quickly. I would often come home from work burnt out. It was a struggle to go to work.

I have been off of work since august. My dr simply labeled me as depressed. But I think that she has got it wrong. I am exhausted all the time. I try to walk or ride my bike, and after only going a short distance, end up in bed for days. I ache all the time.

She told me today that I need to go back to work, and get some exercise, about half an hour a day. That seems a bit excessive to me (especially after telling her that it had taken five days to recover after only 15 minutes of exercise). The way I am, there is absolutely no way that I could work without doing more damage.

Does anyone else have this problem? Is there anything that you can suggest to help me deal with my dr?

Thankyou

I am so sorry that you are getting that fertilizer from your doctor. There are still doctors that think our symptoms are all in our heads. I agree that you really need to go to another doctor. Usually a really stressful event will send us into CFS or FMS. My personal feeling is that we have the hereditary tendency and the extra stress brings it out. There are a number of people in my family that have Fibro, and not raised or living in the same area. That eliminates the enviromental theory, for us, anyway. And we can call and commiserate with each other when we are really hurting. Who else will understand when you say even your hair hurts? Having a support group really helps. Okay, off my soap box.

Walking has helped me but I live in a rainy area (Oregon) and I don't like to walk in the rain too much. However, if I can just go to Walmart or somewhere I can just walk around there and it helps. But don't overdo it, only walk about 10-15 minutes at a time and try to do it twice ina day if you can tolerate it....Now I am not a doc, so don't take my advice as tho I am....just personal experience.

I will agree that exercise is essential. But not a strenuous workout. Just some easy simple stretches. I think a half hour could be much on bad days. I only do a 20 minute routine. I like to do pilates or a dance warm up that is just stretching, nothing strenuous at all.
And if she is feeding you that other fertilizer most definitely find another dr.

Pilates! Pilates! Pilates! Use the ropes and bands. You only need to do 15 minutes a day. You'll like how it'll make your body feel so much that you will look forward to exercising. I have an article on the Bella Fibromyalgia site about different exercise options for fibro patients.

I feel you should find a DR that understands fibro better. Their are days during a flare up that your body is telling you to rest that you need it, you will find with fibro that their will days you can exercise and you will find that if you over do it you will feel worse! I have to pace myself since ending up with fibro about 5 years ago. During a really bad flare up I find it hard to even wash or brush my hair or stand up for a few seconds and that is with taking pain med.Even my feet and legs hurt to take a few steps I believe their are different levels of fibro and needs to be treated as such. I would deffinently look into finding a new Doctor. Most of the Doctors that I work with here in the ER believe that CFS and FMS are just mental diseases for people seeking pity.

You should make sure that you didn't end up with one of these doctors.
