I am due any day with a baby girl, and after she is born I need to get on birth control only thing is that I am going to breast feed, therefor I need to know what birth control will work the best that I can get on while I am breast feeding.

I am not opposed to having more kids it's just that I am turning 18 in a few days and I really shouldn't have anymore kids for a few years atleast.

I was put on Depo with the understanding that I could breast feed while on it. Its a shot that lasts 3 months at a time.

There is something called the mini-pill which is, I think, low progesterone (or low something.. I think it's progesterone). That way it doesn't interfere with breastfeeding. But honestly a kid is the best BC.. you are too tired to have sex! For the first 6 months or so after a birth, it's not that comfortable honestly.. so I'd find other ways to be close. Then ask your doctor about the minipill, or you can use condoms.

It didn't work that well for me, I had sex before I was released by the doctor after having given birth. We used condoms with spermicide. When I had my visit, I told the doctor what I had done and she just shook her head.

I wonder if Norplant works? Can you use it after giving birth? I'm so ready to have my baby but I definitely do not want to give birth for a loooooooooong time after she comes in March. Has anyone used Norplant directly after giving birth?

hey birth control may be good but sometimes it is not always the best while breast feeding, depends what your prescribed. I would say condoms are the best method and as a backup plan use the morning after pill if anything happens but you would have to ask if that is safe while BF too

I am due early in March I plan to get the Minerva, I had used it before, and also other birth control and it is the only one that didn't cause me to gain a significant amount of weight, and you don't have to remember to take it everyday also it last up to five years, the insertion does cause a little cramping but after insertion you never know it is there. It is also possible to breastfeed while you have it

I had an IUD called Mirena, it worked really well, it is safe while you are breastfeeding, and no painful shots to get or pills to forget to take. (I am horrible at remembering pills, and I cry when I have to get the flu shot!) I had super light periods for awhile, and then they finally stopped altogether... and the IUD is good for 5 years. Imagine never having to use condoms again! YAY! laugh

I'm holding my own with Yazz at the moment. I had thought about tubal ligation, but my doctor warned about the problems many women start to have after the procedure. One friend that got a tubal had such heavy periods with cramping that her doctor put her on the pill to help. How ironic is that?

Plus, I know a lady that had three children (sounds way too familiar) that had a tubal in California and got pregnant.

She said that she told her doctor to make sure that he not only tied, but cut, cauterized and stomped on her tubes to be sure that she didn't get pregnant again because she already had three babies. Then, here comes number four but she and her husband are thrilled to pieces with the baby girl.

I have wondered what method will be best when I pass the point where they want to take you off the pills, but who knows what will be available by that time.
