Can you believe the holidays are just around the corner? What are you getting for the gardeners in your life? Or, as a gardener, what would you like to receive this year?

I love to make gift baskets for people for christmas. You can adapt that to the gardeners in your life. I put in packets of special seeds, tools, gloves, fancy plant markers, whatever I see that I think is cute for my gardening friends.
I also like to get landscaping or plants books for my mom. She loves them.

Gardening magazine subscriptions are nice. I used to get them for my husbands grandmother. I love getting magazines in the mail!

Don't forget lovely evocative summery garden books for those long winter evenings some folks have!
I love DH Lawrence (Sons and Lovers - pretty, flowery, wildlife appreciation)
Hardy of course, and as a reminder of the harder work - Seamus Heaney's "Digging"
Siobhain (new Short Stories editor and gardening fanatic! - heaven is .... reading, or writing! ..... in .... the garden of course!) Hi all.
PS Compost article - I always throw a rowelf full of dirt in with each load of new compost - apparently adds lots of lovely microbes to get it going!

I love the gift basket idea! I'll try that for my mom, who is an avid gardener. In fact, I just bought some soaps that were scented in lemon, rosemary and chamomile that would work great in a basket.
Does anyone have a recommendation on magazines? there are so many out there.

Great ideas, Sue and Joan! I love gift baskets. Hi Siobhain, welcome! Green1 - As for recommended gardening magazines, are you looking for some general, beginner types or specific types of gardens or climates? That might help to narrow it down a bit.

My mom lives in Oregon and has been gardening a long time. I know she likes magazines with lots of pictures and landscaping ideas.

HI,
Can you recommend some good sites for getting seeds, bulbs etc. I live in Canada where this time of year there isn't much in the way of gardening stuff on the market.

Re: Gardening magazines ... I'd recommend Fine Gardening and Garden Design - two of my favorites. Carennedy - try Salt Spring Seeds

Hi! I'd like any or all of the above for Christmas, lol! One neat present to give is a bag of wildflower (or other) seeds, with some garden tools, in a pretty basket. It's like getting three gifts in one--the seeds, the tools, and the basket! I am starting to plan my spring and summer garden now--maybe I should show my husband this topic as a hint for Christmas ideas...!
