It is the false identity we build up for ourselves, that we mistakenly believe experiences life on different levels, and is a definition of who we are.
It is illusory, divisive, misleading, dishonest, and is often the very foundation of all our suffering, misery and attachment to everything.
It exists in our mind, and we think it important.
but it is no more important than a flea's fart.

Alexandra, since when you began using dirty words?

If ego is false identity, what is true identity?

It;s a legitimate saying, and i don't consider the word rude. it's just a comical turn of phrase....

There is no true identity, other that that of the sublime consciousness we all share.
What do YOU see as a 'True Identity'?

Hello,
I always find conversations on the ego to be interesting because it seems to me that it is always terribly beaten up on smile. I agree with Alexandra when she says that the ego identity is in our minds, as a matter of fact it is an aspect of the mind. The unfortunate thing is that while we often scorn the ego, it is an absolutely necessary component of our physical life. The consciousness that Alexandra refers to uses the ego mind for its experiences (really your experiences).

Hya Andrea,
Forgive me, but i sent you a (Loooong) PM on an article that was posted in the buddhist forum here. I was simply going to give you the link, but the thread has 'dropped off' the forum discussion topic list.... Rather than post it here again, i thought I'd bash it off to you, for you to read at your leisure. I found it interesting...

Thanks so much Alexandra, the article was a fabulous read and I would love to use it as a reference in my dissertation on the ego. Would you mind telling me where I can find it so that I can source it in my paper?

Hello all,
after writing my dissertation and reading the lovely article that Alexandra PM'd me...I felt inspired to write an article on the ego, check it out and let me know what thoughts come to mind when you read it.
