Hello all,
I am Dianne, and I am so glad I found this board.I have been diagnosed with asthma 14 years ago.I also have a whole list of allergies that interact with my asthma,so I am constantly ill.And because of my allergies,I constantly suffer from horrible sinus infections that turn into chronic bronchitis.
I hope you all don't mind another newbie here.

Hi Dianne,
Welcome to the board and thanks for joining. smile I'm the asthma editor/moderator here, and newbies are always welcome. We are possibly neighbors--I'm in NW FL--and I don't have asthma, but my daughter does.

Do you have any tips for dealing with sinus infections? My 8 year-old with asthma has gotten much better w/her breathing but has developed the tendency to develop sinus infections even though she doesn't have problems with allergies. Mostly we rely on saline nasal washes and warm showers because I don't really like using decongestants on her. What do you use?

Hi Amy,
I don't use decongestants either because they tend to keep me up all night.
As for tips,I really don't have any,but if I think of some,I will let you know.

Hey, thanks! Decongestants don't keep my kid awake but they turn her into a CRAZY person and--I'm not sure--but they seem to bother her stomach, a little.

We've been using Mucinex a lot lately. Its an expectorant rather than a pure decongestant. It seems like its less drying and does more to thin out the mucous so they can get it out of their system (cough it up or blow it out). That and saline, hot showers/baths, Vicks tabs in the bath, lots of water.

Hmm...I'm going to have to look into Mucinex, I can see. We use Vicks and hot showers, but I've never considered expectorants, probably because it's a fairly new symptom. Don't you just love how kids' asthma keeps changing just when you get a handle on their symptoms?

Yeah, gotta love it.

Now if we can just get the allergy related eczema under control... and find a detergent that doesn't result in diaper rash...
