Hi all, I was thinking about it this morning (I was EXHAUSTED!) and I realized that even if I had a TINY bit of maternal longing, which I don't, it would be snuffed out with the thought of getting myself AND another person ready to face each day. I'm sure the rest of you would agree that our lives are busy, fulfilling and downright hectic sometimes...I absolutely cannot fathom the idea of having a child to care for 24/7. Obviously, people make it work, but I just can't imagine WANTING to! I felt invigorated knowing this and I wanted to share my excitement at not ever having to worry about this with the only group that would understand...

As a side note, I was bingoed at a wedding this weekend and was feeling feisty (and a bit buzzed) so I replied, as seriously as possible, "John is afraid we might have a girl, and I'm terrified we might end up with a boy...so I guess we're just going to stick with our dog!" The person (a distant relative that I NEVER see, thank goodness) looked less than amused at the blunt reply. It was great. Everyone left the topic alone after that!

I LOVE that bingo response! That's perfect! I may use that one sometime!

That's hilarious! I might use that one too. Someone would have to be taking themselves too seriously if they don't find that amusing.

I think about that "getting ready for the day" thing too quite a bit. For one thing, i work at home, so suddenly I'd have to deal with a daily school schedule, car trips, fighting with a kid who doesn't want to go to school, homework...all things I hated about childhood, and was so glad to be done with! I probably would have been okay if my life had gone that way where I had to do it, but since that didn't happen, i can appreciate the alternative!

I got bingo'ed yesterday at work. One of the girls here is pregnant and was showing us the ultrasound pictures (at various times they looked like a fossil was in her stomache - quite strange) and one of the guys said "You'll be next Bec". I replied "That would be a bit hard after the vasectomy". He went "You're not serious?", I said "Yep, it's just not happening here. I only like children if I can give them back." He hasn't spoken to me since.

I am NOT (NOT NOT NOT!!) a morning person. I NEED my quiet routine or I end up in a foul mood. Don't speak to me before I've showered and dressed. Heck, I don't even want the radio on until after I've showered, and even then it's on NPR so no loud music. I don't mind feeding the bunnies/mouse and interacting with them (btw, they get very excited and do a very cute little happy-food-dance - even the mouse), but that's a whole different level than screaming kids. Hooray for my furry family.

Wow. It seems like there's a theme here with people who bingo us then deciding we're not worth associating with if we profess not to be planning to have kids. What's up with that???

Great post, Blonde135! Awesome comeback to your distant cousin too! I am pretty tired as I write. This morning I did a 1 hour, 10 minute bike ride in 26-degree temps. I wore enough layers to keep warm. Still when I got home, I wanted a hot shower and a hot breakfast. Of course, I took my shower and ate and did not enough to worry about getting Junior off to school or if he had done his homework. I went ice skating at mid-day. 12:00-1:30 is the adults only session. I missed most of adults only time since I was working in the field until 1:00. Shortly after I got on the ice, a woman and her ~5 year old granddaughter got on. The kid is just learning how to skate as one might guess. I skated 6 laps for every lap that grandma and the kid skated. The kid constantly needed something: her skates tightened, loosened, a drink, the bathroom... you name it. Hey good for grandma for taking the kid skating. Every time I looked over at them all I could think of was, better you than me! My timing was good today. There was no one else on the ice except for Grandma and the kid. As I was leaving, a group of moms and kids arrived. I got home from work at 6:00 tonight and relaxed for an hour before going to the pool. I missed the after work crowds at the pool, by going at 7:00. Since I dont have to help Junior with his homework, I can read my favorite news and sports web pages and this forum. I am going to pack my lunch and read before going to sleep. Life is good.

here's another bingoed moment for you! i was at a benefit on sunday. my friend who is preggers showed up and her sister's aunt by marriage told her congrats and then turned to me and i swear looked at my stomach and said" do you have any news to report?"i said a very stern "no" and walked away.i was so angry i swear i wanted to throttle her. some people just have not tact. i generally get along with her so i was a little surprised by her behavior. i was already not feeling fell due to a bad cold so it bothered me more than it normally would have. i don't get much pestering about kids anymore so when it does happen i get really irritated about it.

i agree with you the blonde that i couldn't imagine having to fit in having a child into my already busy schedule. of course some of the things my hubby and i do we wouldn't be able to do if we had kids. what irritates me is that some people assume that just b/c you dont' have kids that you're not busy. we're busy alright but not necessarily with the same kind of things parents are which is more than fine by me!

That's awful indigo!!! I would have been SO mad too. That is an unbelievably thoughtless thing to say. When I hear people do that I just think, "What if I really was struggling with infertility and upset by that?" Inconsiderate!! It's another case of older women who think their age exempts them from being polite. It's so hard to think of responses that are worthy. It sounds like you handled it well.

I'm with everyone on shuddering at the thought of adding kid duty to my mornings. Or the rest of my time, for that matter. I imagine I'd look like a human version of Bill the Cat most days.

I'm SO pleased to have wormed my way out of a baby shower this weekend. Even more so that I'll be doing a photo shoot with the girl band instead. No Bingo for me, thanks!
