My grandson is interested in Hermit Crabs. We have been researching on their care and need information on what kind of substrate to use. I've read sand, gravel, Bed-A Beast. Want is the best to use and how deep. Also for three crabs, what size tank?

I use coconut coir. It is a renewable resource, and my hermit crabs seem to love it. They can bury themselves into it, and they also like to eat it, from what I have read.

I also have 3 hermies, and I bought a ten gallon fishtank at a local thrift shop for $3.
I put about 3 inches of coconut coir in the bottom. That seems to be enough.

Here is a great website to help new hemit crab parents:
www.hermit-crabs.com

I got a lot fo info about their care from this site.
