Hi Everyone!
I'm new here to this forum but I am glad to have found some kindred spirits in all things British! I am a huge fan of the Sharpe Series, set during the Napoleonic Wars and starring Sean Bean which has been shown many times all over the globe. I hope to find more fans here as well. I am a member of another forum (themightybean.com) who got wind of a proposed new chapter in the Sharpe series called "Sharpe's Peril". Myself and two other members of the forum have been in touch with the producers of the previous Sharpe films who have verified this information. So far there are no plans to air it in America when it becomes available. BBCAmerica who has shown the previous Sharpe films so far is not interested, mainly for financial reasons. We have put together an online petition to appeal for them to reconsider as well as drawing up a letter that people can print out and mail to BBC America to let their voice be heard. ipetitions.com http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/Sharpe/ It would be wonderful for anyone interested to sign the petition and/or write a letter or print out our copy of the letter to send to BBCAmerica's offices. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to 'meeting' more of you in the forum soon. Sincerely, farrell Letter to BBCAmerica:
BBC America P.O. Box 6266 Florence, KY 41022-6266
Dear BBC America:
You did us a good turn by giving us Sharpe. Please don't do your viewers a bad one by refusing to pick up Sharpe's Peril, the proposed new entry in the Sharpe lineup. It is our understanding that Sharpe IS in peril from the powers that be at BBC America because you are not interested in carrying this newest chapter of the Sharpe series in the United States.
The BBC has built their reputation on presenting high quality shows and the Sharpe series has always been at the top of that list. BBC America should be a shop window for all great UK programming in every genre. Sharpe has a dedicated and fiercely loyal audience who continue to support the actor Sean Bean in the character of Richard Sharpe and the fifteen feature-length films previously produced from the wonderful novels of the author Bernard Cornwell. Sharpe is the type of crossover hit that endures much like the Indiana Jones series and is of interest to viewers of all ages. Therefore, the people who have yet to meet Sharpe will want to get to know him once they've seen a segment of this show. No age group is immune from good swashbuckling action, romance and well-acted drama.
We understand that much more than their parent company, BBC America must look to the profitability of the programs they air. Please know that should BBC America agree to give Sharpe another chance in the US, that fans there and around the world will offer the full measure of their support to the network and the film by spreading the word through Internet websites, discussion groups, blogs, email, and word of mouth.
BBC America, please reconsider your decision not to pick up Sharpe's Peril and we promise that we will do everything in our power to assure a viewership that will justify your faith in us.
Sincerely,
|
