My husband had this dream last night: one of his all time favourite bands Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks were playing at an outside venue but my husband was far away from them standing in deep water off the end of a pier. He was holding a package of cigarettes (4 inside he remembers) up as high as he could to prevent them from getting wet. Waves kept splashing them and when he got out of the water he found the cigs were too wet to smoke (they didn't belong to him in the dream but he was hoping to smoke one). When he got closer to the band he saw that a backup singer he admired was (unlike real life) obese and was using a cane.

To note: this was the night before he was to quit smoking, but he smokes cigars and hasn't smoked cigs for 10+ years.

Any ideas? sleep

As discussed over and over again here in this forum, water is oft equated with emotions, as I am sure you know wink.

Perhaps your husband is overwhelmed with the fact that he doesn't want to quit just yet, but that he still wants quit or at least abate his dependency (ie a cigarette being smaller than a cigar) As for the husky, dilapidated singer perhaps his quitting is because he doesn't want to end up in the same sitch.

I talked with my guy about the emotions of quitting and there was a link he thought about having already quit this habit with the cigarettes 10 yrs ago (hence the cigs not cigars in the dream) and this final quitting is really the last emotionally painful step. He does have real concerns about the health impact this lifelong habit has so therefore maybe the "ago and now" music connection- but he definitely is afraid of putting on weight as he quits.
Thanks for the insight!
