The writers Guild of America officially went on strike today. No one knows how long this strike will last - or what disastrous affects it will have on the economy and industry. The last strike (in 1988) lasted 22 weeks and drove away 9 percent of viewers.

Soap operas and late night talk shows (Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O'Brien) will be the first to feel the pinch. Primetime shows will be hit probably around January. That means we will all be left watching reruns until the dispute is resolved.

Do you think a strike was the smart way to go or do you think writers are risking it all for greed? Is there another way to satisfy both sides?
