Hi everybody,
I have been reading all of your posts for some time now and it is really great to have found people who are of the same thinking as my husband and I. We have been married for over eight years now, are in our mid - 30's and do not have any intention of having any children. We live in Ireland and believe me the CF path is not an easy path to take here. Having children is a given once you marry or cohabit and I do not know of any other person who has openly said that they are CF.Anyway, just said I would introduce myself and look forward to joining in in the future.

Hi Becki! My husband and I visited the southern part of Ireland last year and loved it! Such a beautiful place! I think I get what you mean about kids there though, once we got away from the tourist areas, I was amazed at how many kids were running around! I guess it is the heavy Catholic influence in Ireland, maybe? Anyway, welcome, and you've found some like minds here!

Welcome becki! It's so cool to meet people from across the globe who all struggle with the same issues.

It's just so weird to me how so many people think alike. You're not alone, and it's good to have you here.

Hi Becki - CF in Ireland - now that's something different.
What is the size of the average family in Ireland these days?
I know the Catholic Church is still very involved in everyday life in your country but have heard that Ireland has really moved ahead in the last 15 years or so.
Is it still a very traditional country? Do most mothers stay at home with their children? At what age do most people marry?
Just curious - I went to university with an Irish girl and her parents told me about life in Ireland in the 40s & 50s when birth control was unavailable - her father told me they had to buy condoms in the UK and take them back to Ireland...his mother had 7 kids and his wife's mother had 10 - he said it made life very hard. I'm sure it would....

Thank you all for the warm welcome. It's so great to find so many like minded people in the one place. Yes Ireland is or at least was a very traditional country and family is very important but in the last ten years we have had an economic boom here and also many scandals involving the catholic church so to a large extent religion has lost it's prevelance - in my opinion anyway. With our new found wealth I notice that more and more women are giving up work altogether to rear children or only work part time- I call them "the yummy mummies".
Deborah - thankfully contraception is freely available now but you are right you could not get it very easily thirty or forty years ago - hence the huge families! I wonder if I am the only Irish CF on here?
