I have a friend that grew up in Texas with no humidity. When she moved up to Missouri, over time, the humidity screwed her hair up bad! She now has the kinkiest, fuzziest, curliest hair I've ever seen. Her hair will not grow past her shoulders, no matter how long you wait. It's rediculous. She tried straitening it every day, but it doesn't last long, and it takes her about an hour to do. Do you have any advice on how I can help her? Her hair is about chin length right now.... She's a bit overweight, and I'd like to do something with her hair that would be flattering to her. She's a very pretty girl.

Straightening it everyday is tiring and it is hard on her hair. To make the most of it she will have to start using products to help control her curly hair. There are many product lines that are great for that. My favorite is Nioxin Smoothing line. The cleanser and scalp therapy (conditioner) are very moisturizing, Then use the Silk Elixir - leave in conditioner to get rid of frizz, and Pure Shine Gel to hlp with curl definition, shine and to get rid of frizz. If she needs more control she can use the Styling Gel.

Curly hair always requires trial and error in styling because every curl is different.

Stop straightening her hair. She should do a wash and go. and wear her hair up until it gets past her shoulders. her hair is probably weakening from the heat, and then her hair is also rubbing against her shoulders and breaking.
