We're expecting our first baby in February. We know it's a boy and are pretty set on the name Abel Zachary, but we are having a hard time settling on a naming pattern. Any ideas? We plan to have 5 children and have thought of doing all A names, all Bible names, naming in alphabetical order, etc. Anyone have any suggestions?

Congratulations!

I think those three patterns (same-letter names, Bible names, alphabetical names) are good ones. I also know a family that sort of "stretched" the alphabetical theme over four kids -- the names started with A, G, V and Z respectively -- so that might be one to think about as well.

Perhaps you could try coming up with potential names that fit in with those patterns, just to see what you've got to work with. For instance, how easy is it for you to find 8 more Biblical names (4 male, 4 female) that you really like? How about 8 more A-names? This might help you decide which pattern to go with.

If you are going with an A-Z combination for your first child, you could take the alphabetical order thing up a notch by doing reverse alphabetical on the middle name (B-Y, C-X, etc). Good luck with those middle names though! ;-)
