"The Periodic Table - Elements With Style!" by Adrian Dingle

my 5 yr old and i have been exploring the whole concept of atoms and molecules and +/- charge interaction. he loves how it connects things for him - especially when it comes to the body (why he needs to drink water, how his blood carries oxygen, etc.). doing molecular structures with different colored fruit snacks doesn't hurt the enthusiasm either. smile however, any text at this age NEEDS imaginative pictures. this one is great! it gives each element a "personality".

Zandes, thanks for sharing that resource. I actually reviewed it here not too long ago:BellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. Please use UBB code. If you don't know how to do UBB code just post here for help - we will help out!

So nice that they have a book for kids (as that one is for kids starting age 9 rather than college kids) on the periodic table of elements! Our son at age 7 had to write a science advisor online to ask where he could find drawings for each element (and later, we found a book with this, but it was aimed at adults rather than children).

And I agree with Lorel - it's neat that your son is exploring elements at age 5! Our son was chatting about the table of elements with a 12-year-old neighbor back when he was 3 and also studied the Periodic Table of Elements on a medical school students shirt such that the student told our son he should go into medicine (and this caused an issue as he is likely one of few 3-year-olds who didnt want to take Benydryl because that can have bad side effects and said he would agree to take it only if he was shown what was in the medicine using the Periodic Table of Elements!), but he didn't start questioning the make-up of each element until he was 7.

If your son is into how blood carries oxygen, he might enjoy the game "Circulation" if it's still available anywhere (we had it when our son was really little, but have it in a pile out in the garage to give to a charity on Tuesday and I can't recall who made that game).
