The movie Picnic at Hanging Rock is probably the most haunting movie I've seen. No gore, no real "horror" elements, but it's got an eerie feel that stays with you.

I totally agree, The Shining is awesome! The bad thing though, you start rooting for Olive Oyl to get killed cause she's so annoying!

Pet Semetary is a great movie too. I watched it when I was younger and the cat from the dead always scared the [censored] out of me!

Lol. She was annoying, wasn't she? In terms of Stephen King adaptations, I'd have to say The Shining, Misery, and Salem's Lot were probably the best. Can't forget The Shawshank Redemption and the Green Mile either !

We were just talking about "Pet Semetary" over in Horror literature. I said that little Gage Creed is one of the scariest "monsters" that I can think of. And the little boy that played him in the movie was just so adorable - that made it even worse!

Oh, and add to my list - "Alien" and the original "Poltergeist" (the sequels got a little ridiculous, though.)

Just something about cute, little kids and ultimate evil...

I really enjoy "The Amityville Horror (1978)" with Margot Kidder and James Brolin. There was a little while there where they were coming out with A TON of movies that had soundtracks featuring a choir of creepy singing children (ironic for the time; a staple of the classic horror movie now).

Which brings me to..."Poltergeist." Good performances, little gore, and haunting family fun that's sure to give your children nightmares but keep them laughing while they're watching it!

"Secret Window" is good, and "The Dark Half" (also a King flick) isn't shabby; as with all King-based screenplays, there is generally a huge amount lost in the translation from writing to screen.

Terrence: George C. Scott is the main character in "Changeling," I believe.

Pikasam, you're right about "The Entity." It's a disturbing one....AND based on a true story, if you can believe that.

Children of the Corn really freaked us out, too ... (of course it may have had something to do with driving past cornfields late at night and intentionally freaking each other out).

"The Entity" - I looked it up on IMDB and it sounds vaguely familiar. Did they have a name for the evil spirit? I might be thinking of something else.

Speaking of George C. Scott. He was in The Exorcist III and was great. That had a lot of creepiness to it !
