I remember one Christmas where one of them (about 7 or 8 at the time) bowled up to her and said to her face "I hate you". To which she replied "Good, because I hate you too. Now p**s off before I kick your a$$". The kid looked dumbfounded, and I've never laughed so hard.
That is hysterical. Sounds like something I would say. My sisters youngest child used to bite people. She would be playing along and just get up and bite someone. She did it too me one time and I grabbed her and bit her back. Left teeth marks as well. She let out a scream like I had drawn blood, my sister wasn't humored but said nothing, my brother in law thought it funny and pointed out to the child that if she didn't like being biten then she shouldn't bite others. One time my daughter had a friend over, a friend I am not fond of AT ALL. We went to Wal-mart to pick up a few things and this friend started acting like hell on wheels. I stopped in the middle of the produce section and looked right at her and shouted "STOP IT RIGHT NOW, no one comes to Wal-mart to see a bunch of kids act like heathens !!" She stopped short and acted reasonably the rest of the time we were there.

I have to admit I actually did the fingers to a couple of kids the other day. Half of me is appalled at myself and my poor role model action (usually I am impeccably behaved and responsible), the other half is secretly amused. I was driving down a main road near our place, and there were a couple of boys about 11 or 12, on the side of the road, and one was doing a foul play act of waggling his (how do I put this nicely) p*nis at me and my car. Without thinking I just did the fingers as I drove past. I was so disgusted at their behaviour I just instantly reacted that way. I looked in my rear-view mirror and saw the two of them staring after my car, no longer waggling anything and looking sort of gob-smacked. I guess their attempt to shock me didn't quite work the way they planned. I don't care whether people are 45 or 12 - that sort of behaviour I have no tolerance for. Just to think, that is someone's "darling boy". Ha!
Self-serving? So shoot me. (Sorry, that's a private joke amongst those who read the thread about my friend's baby blog...)

Today as I was driving through a parking lot a group of teenagers arranged for one of them to bend over and show me his crack (they all laughed when they saw I saw.) I was compelled for a moment to hit them with my car ... seriously ...
As far as the biting thing ... a woman I know has two kids, the youngest of which went through a biting phase where he actually would bite skin. She said that she finally had enough of it and one day bit him back, gently (so she thought.) But it left marks and she was terrified to leave the house the rest of the day because he had tooth marks on his arm.
He didn't get the hint, though, and continued biting ...

OH to have a camera when one of these idiots decides to show off by mooning you OR showing their genetalia. I am so NOT understanding of things like this. I would pursue it like call the police or find their parents. I have done this with kids in my neighborhood, they LOVE me to say the least.
I think if that kid had showed me his [censored], I might have opened the window and told him not to show it off since its so pathetically SMALL. Hopefully it would scar him for life and he would NEVER bring it out again. Little Jerk. He sounds like a budding sex offender too me.
I have the belief when these kids start acting like this, an early interaction with the police and arrests would do them wonders.
I have told my daughter if I ever catch her doing something like drugs or otherwise acting the fool, I will call the police myself. I have a girlfriend who had troubles with her daughter when she became a teenager and she went to Family Court and told them she could not control her daughter, her daughter was running in the wrong crowd etc. She turned over custody to the court, the court told her daughter what she was going to do, who she was going to see, etc. and told her that if she failed to meet any of the courts requirements, her Mother was going to call the police and she would end up in juvenile hall. That cleaned her act up quickly.

There was a terrible scenario here last year. Some parents did exactly that with their son. They dobbed hom in when he stole a car because they wanted to give him a shock. The police arrested him and put him in a van with some other prisoners headed for prison. He was beaten and killed in the van. Those parents now have to live with the guilt, but they had a lot of support from people writing letters to the editor, saying that they did the right thing trying to discipline him. Another instance of a parenthood nightmare.

Well, why did the police put him in that situation anyway? I'm on the parents' side.

Yes, exactly, there was a big issue about all that. I'm on the parent's side too.

They did do the right thing, it was the idiots who put him in a an with adult criminals that made the HUGE mistake. I personally would have sued them myself, not for the money but to drive the point home.
In the story you relate, I am sure there were things that led up to that, that they let pass. Maybe they should have started smaller.
I fully intend to take my daughter on a tour of the local juvenile facility, I am also going to sit her down and have her talk with a Deputy about the law and the kinds of things teenagers are doing in the area and what kind of punishment they can get for them.
I also plan on trying to find some kind of group with teenage Mothers and have her observe and posibly volunteer her time as well as see if she can observe a real birth. AND when the day comes that some little snot nosed boy thinks he loves my daughter, I am going to sit down and have a talk with his parents and tell them should they make the decision to become sexually active and get pregnant, they will be parents in 9 months because I will not agree to an abortion for a minor child AND then I will set about pursuing them and their son for as much child support as the law allows.
Its little details of life that teenagers don't understand. They only think of the fun part, well I think its my job as her parent to show her that life is not all fun.
I am not a subtle person, when it comes to my daughter, its even worse. She is probably going to hate me for a few years but thats ok, I am expecting it. My goal is to raise her to be a happy and contributing member of society, not to win a popularity contest.

Lisa, have you considered contracting yourself out to be a "parenting adviser"? Honestly, the world needs more people like you and there would be a heap of parents out there who could do with your advice. You could be like the Super Nanny (Jo Frost) in the UK. I was reading about her the other day. Despite the fact that she has taught hundreds of thousands of parents how to improve discipline and have a better family life, reporters are still obsessed with the fact that she is 37 and has no children of her own.

NO, I have never thought about doing that. I could never stand being around kids that much, to be frank they annoy me to death. My daughter is pretty well behaved for now but there are times when I am at a loss for words.
With every milestone I pass with my daughter, I am glad that is one more hard thing that is behind us.
