I am going on a 4 day retreat this weekend - there will be plenty of food there, but I'm concerned about WHAT food will be served there - I don't want to mess up my low-carb diet - because I've stuck to it and am doing very well. I also don't want to starve because then I'll end up bingeing on bad stuff before the weekend is over.

Are there any non-perishable items I can bring along? (besides nuts?)

Hi Marvelissa,

My suggestion, depending upon your diet, would be fresh fruit and nuts. In a pinch I would soak raisins, non sulfured apricots and prunes in spring water and eat those-I believe soaking them pulls some of the sugar out. Also, you might try almonds, they are lo carb. If you like beans, you could eat them in a whole wheat wrap mixed with a green salad.

Good Luck!!! I hope it works out for you!

I went on the Suzanne Somers diet and lost 50lbs in 4months, it was amazing.

As a low carber I'm not certain so much fruit is allowed.. unless you are doing susanne somers, fat flush or paleothin which are not actually considered low carb diets.. but if you are doing Atkins, Kim-Kins or something similar, and have been on the first phase of the diet for more than two weeks.. nuts are allowed *except peanuts and cashews which are considered beans and extremely high in carbs*.. you can take nuts *raw is better than salted* or make your own nut butters and dip celery sticks.. take beef or turkey jerkey *double check to buy it without added corn syrup or sugars*, soy chips and low carb snack bars available at your local grocery or health food stores. You may even want to check for recipes online for low carb granola which is usually made of flax seeds, nuts and so on... I would reccommend the cookbook "Extreme Lo-Carb Meals on the Go" which has a wonderful pumpkin granola *recipe made from pumpkin seeds*, as well as recipes for low carb muffins, fake fudge, cheese sticks, jerky & zucchini nut bread... oh, and you can also toast pepperoni slices in the oven.. they get very crunchy and they last well in a sandwich bag... bags of flavored or plain pork rinds, and low carb meal replacement drinks in a can are great in a crunch too... just be sure to read, read, read the ingredients..

All the best and a safe trip to you...

Actually most places are aware of vegetarians nowadays and always offer salads. So you can always have delicious salads and do quite nicely. Plus many vegetables are naturally low carb and very good for you. Ask them what they have for vegetarians, and I bet you will be all set.
