That's great! I agree that he should get his name out there, that he will perform a vasectomy, and doesn't have an agenda. It is hard to find a doctor that sees things our way sometimes. My gyn has made comments here and there when I've asked her questions about birth control. And she waves her hand, and says, "and if you get pregnant, you can take care of it." That's easy for her to say, because she wouldn't be the one going through the physical or emotional ordeal. I think over time doctors might even recognize a niche market in CF people, and specialize in vasectomies.

His name is Dr. Reel...i'm not sure how much that helps though, he is a military surgeon...Out here in Idaho...not much help to civilians, but he could be helpful to other military members.

The doctor that did mine is Dr. Akhil Das in Los Alamos. His head nurse was very understanding to the situation my ex and I were in. My ex wanted to get off the pill. The nurse told us her husband also got snipped so she could get off the pill. Dr. Michael Milroy in Santa Fe did one for a friend of mine many years ago. I called Dr. Milroy's office first and they referred me to Dr. Das. Both offices were very nice and didn't make any comments. Bottom line-if you really hit a wall, book a cheap flight to Albuquqerque and visit one of these docs. My out of pocket cost (I am on Blue Cross Insurance) was less than a one year supply of pills. Good luck today Skeeter. Hope your discomfort is as minimal as mine was. After you heal up and do the 2 checks, you will definately have a very enjoyable love life.

Ok im back...about 3 hours post procedure, little bit of ice, and some motrin (they gave me vicodin but i havn't bothered yet) I'm really suprised at how little pain and hassle was involved. I would recomend this to any guy/couple that is looking for a permament form of birth control.

Congratulations Skeeter!

Mike, thank you for the info. My husband and I are in Albuquerque and it will be great to be able to avoid all of the hassle of figuring out who will be willing to perform the procedure (husband is 34). Well worth a drive to SF!

I am disappointed that getting a vasectomy has been difficult for so many of you. My husband and I married at 22 and at 24 he volunteered for a vasectomy. It was such an easy process for us and by hearing some of your stories I now realize that we got lucky.

We asked a family friend which doctor he saw. Scheduled a consult and a week after that he had the surgery.
