I originally signed in for this forum so I could tell you this, but I forgot! Mouhahaha! silly me.

Well, here's what I wanted to tell you about : There's a popular discussion board here in Hong Kong, with topics about almost any/everything. I started a new post titled (well, it's in chinese, but this is what it means) Don't want babies, are you like me too? I received 6 pages of responses in 1 week. I was very overwhelmed. So many intelligent and kind people telling me that even in this chinese society, they've made the choice to be childfree, and LOVE their decision.

The post is considered "old" and not active anymore, but I just wanted to let you know. laugh

See, you're not alone and you're not crazy. Sometimes if just feels that way in a sea of breeders all talking your ears off...

Hi Kitty,
I think lots of women in HK don't want kids - I work in HK and know lots of independent, interesting CF women.
I heard that Chinese men are looking for wives in HK - with girls out of favour for so long in China there is now a shortage of marriageable women. Apparently, they have been sorely disappointed with their reception in HK - not many women interested in a traditional marriage - their role to have and raise the next son.
In fact, I think many women now consider the issue very carefully ... in many countries CF couples are on the rise.
Men are also thinking long and hard about children rather than simply "letting it happen" or "getting carried along in the current". New male contraceptive methods not far away will help men take control of this aspect of their lives - long overdue in my opinion...

Thanks, good people! Indeed, I'm not crazy, and not alone!

and Deborah49, you work in HK?! How cool is that?!!! laugh I wish I can meet more CF people in my social circle. *sigh* Why are all my friends so baby-crazy? ...

but the mainland Chinese men's difficulty in looking for women willing to be traditional wives and mothers is a known issue. heehee ... I have no pity for them.

by the way, a transliteration of D.I.N.K. (Double Income No Kids) has appeared in the Mandarin Chinese language in some parts of China (a few news articles from Beijing and Shanghai, and 2 large online forums with middle class, tertiary educated audience). CF people are called "Ding-ker", just like DINKer. It actually sounds quite hip. heh-heh ... perhaps soon HK will start using this term too! wink
