I wonder if there is anyone with twitching muscles or fasciculations as a thyroid symptom. This was my first symptom eleven years ago. I`ve a lot(over 20)of other symptoms amd the twitch remains after a year of treatment. I`ve high thyroid antibodies and two nodules. I feel i`m not in the right dosis, yet. The twitching in all my muscles is annoying and scary.
Other symptoms has improve, but others don`t...

I have had twitching muscles since November 2001. They started shortly after beginning Synthroid. I have been on and off of different thyroid medications/supplements and the twitches have continued. Nothing seems to make them better or worse except they sometimes seem worse when I am more tired than usual, although not always. I have not been tested for them and don't know what they are from but have read that they can be caused by fibromyalgia, which I suspect I may have. I have been doing research on iodine and thyroid disease and have come across something called Iodorol, which I am about to try. I also came across (on the internet) a doctor named Dr. David Brownstein who treated his own thyroid problems with high doses of iodine and has done research and wrote a book about iodine deficiency. You may want to check it out on the internet. A web site I found was www.quackcenter.com, which tells a lot about iodine and Dr. Brownstein. Hope this information helps you and hope it helps to know there are others who have twitching muscles too. I was scared of them at first too but I'm getting used to them and kind of ignore them now.

I too have twitching movements but I thought mine were from my other medications or the Intrathecal Pump I have in my body. Two of the medicines I take are for nerves which I thought would help some ...but no. You sound a lot like me and I was actually scared reading your post. You wrote you think you have fibromyalgia. The signs you have are the same as I have. I too take Synthroid but since 1994 my dosed have changed from year to year and one year I was given the wrong dose. Boy did that mess me up big time. I was supposed to be taking 1.5mcg and he gave me in a rush 0.50. Talk about sick- first I thought I had the flu I ached all over and couldn't move or I hurt really bad. Then from there I realized 2 weeks in the dose was wrong but too late. In 1994 the doctor gave me radioactive iodine which closed off part of my thyroid after being diagnosed being off the chart. To this day nobody can tell me how much is closed off and how much functions. I wish they'd just shut the whole thing down.So see Anita your not alone. Keep your head up better days are coming.

Hi, For muscle twtiching try Calm, a powder Magnesium.
I have the twtiching form Lyme disease.
It works almost immediately.
I was on a ton of meds, nothing touched it.
THen I used Calm, When it wears off the twtiching returns.
I put it in hot water 2 to 3 times a day- I then have NO twitching.

I but it at a Health Store.

Peace,
BJG

Good Luck

Hi Belva,

I just recieved an e-mail from someone with Lyme Disease (may have been you) and this info might be of help to them as well, thanks for sharing it!
I would think a topical magnesium would be safe to use for twitching. Magnesium is over-the-counter and oral types are usually safe as well, when taken at the manufacturer's recommended dose.
This is the first I've heard of it for twitching muscles but your testimony sounds like it might be a promising solution for people with this problem.
