I've been a bit unsure about my decision on the kids front - I've never wanted them but I have been trying to push the subject as hubby isn't as anti-having-kids as me...

Anyway, this morning has made up my mind! A friend of hubby's has been fixing our bathroom (as a wedding gift - it's our second wedding anniversary in 3 weeks time - so I've been a little mad at it taking so long - but thats a whole other story), he has been promising for weeks to come down and keeps cancelling at the very last minute. So I didn't take it seriously that he'd be coming down this week... I went out last night with a friend and had a few "drinks" expecting to be able to have my hang-over in peace and a well deserved lie-in after a hectic week at work.

At 8:20 hubby's friend phones up to say he is coming down to do the bathroom - so is his fiance and their one year old!!! So we had to get up and sort out the house and they arrived. The kid is sweet but walking round pulling the fire guard, the curtains, the glass coasters etc. Living room is strewn with toys. Cats seem to have left home - it's horrendous chaos - I escaped for an hour to go to the supermarket, sitting in the car for 20 minutes before coming back home!

All I want to do is sleep! The kid is now in the garden playing and I'm staying out of the way (I'm with the cats on that one!)...

Rant over

Purplegirl,
I understand the feeling -- although I've observed the same stuff at other people's houses. No child is ever coming into our house -- it is a house for adults, not for children. It is not childproof, and never will be.

The other issue that is going to be asked is: "What does your husband think about this child tearing YOUR place apart like that?" My only hope is that now that you have had your ultimate, non-Kodak moment with a real, live child, up close and personal, perhaps HE will have a change of heart.

Just remember... "It's different when it's your own!" Yes, it is -- it is YOUR stuff being destroyed by the child!

My best wishes to you -- you need em.

Hi Duane!

I've read a lot of your stuff and think you make so much sense! Thanks for replying...

It wasn't until the child came to visit that I realised how "child unfriendly" our place is. Nothing is broken (that I know of), I've been more than a little anti-social and I don't think he'll be coming back!).

I've had non-kodak moments before but this really brought it home to me (literally). I feel awful for the poor cats, they're terrified! Hubby didn't really see the kid so he wasn't aware really. Still have this nagging doubt that he wants a child - and TBH I'd rather lose him than be forced into the slavery of motherhood...

The more I think about it, the more steralisation seems a good option!
