I have a 1940's Singer, inherited from a grandmother. When I got it 4 years ago, I started quilting. I've now made 4 quilts that I quilted by hand and 5 I've machine quilted. My Singer is ok, but I think I'm ready for a bigger league machine. I don't know where to start, though.

Eventually I want to get a long arm, I have the space and the drive to make the investment, so when I get a new machine, I want it to be able to adapt to the long arm - I do no sewing other than the straight lines of quilting - I prefer to make quilts for queen beds rather than baby quilts - and I'd like to machine quilt more than quilt by hand (though I probably won't give that up).

If anyone has a recommendation of a brand, a line, or a specific machine, I'd love it. I am not enough of a shopper, nor enough of an experienced seamstress to handle the sales pitches.

I just purchased a Janome 6600P... it has everything a quilter would want and it has over 9 inches between needed and arm! Certainly can be adapted to a Gracie frame or any others you might want. It is great! And well worth the investment! I should also just warn you of internet versions of many brands. I strongly suggest you check and "test drive" machines you are interested in at a local quilt or sewing center. The internet versions are like knock offs... If you purchase a machine from a quilt store ( not JoAnns or Hancock or Hobby Lobby, etc) they very often offer free lessons and service, which makes your sewing machine purchase all the more reasonable!!
Piece!
