Well, I just finished reading "We Need to Talk About Kevin" by Lionel Shriver and I am still reeling from the horror of it. Have you guys read it? I haven't read that yet. I just got "The Baby Trap" in the mail. I've heard really good things about it. And I am almost finished with "Reconceiving Women," which was really great. There is a lot of psychology mumbo gumbo, which I don't mind, but it's actually really fascinating.
Save your own life - don't have kids!

Think before you breed ... it may just save your sanity ... Having kids really f'ed up my body. And I'm still [censored] about it. No amount of exercise will lift my boobs or get rid of my stretchmarks. Damnit. Maybe I should have been one of those childless bastards.

I saw that one too. Childless bastards? You just wonder about the levels of empathy and/or compassion these people are capable of, considering that's of primary importance to being a parent. "Childless" means someone who wants a child and can't have one, so what have they ever done to deserve being called a bastard? She must mean childfree, and just got the wording wrong.
Also, who exactly is she [censored] at? Hopefully herself, since she's the one who wanted to have kids!

Childless bastards? You just wonder about the levels of empathy and/or compassion these people are capable of, considering that's of primary importance to being a parent. Now that is the question. We may be "childless bastards" (to use her phrasing) but if that is the price to be paid to be such a CB, so be it. She must mean childfree, and just got the wording wrong. Not everyone knows, or cares, about the different meanings of childless and childfree. However, referring to the above attitude presented, methinks she does know and said what she said with purpose. Also, who exactly is she [censored] at? Hopefully herself, since she's the one who wanted to have kids!Let us make a list: - Her husband/boyfriend for convincing her to have a child
- Her "friends" who didn't tell her about such after-effects
- Her family for forcing her into a corner
- Society for making her think that "having a baby is going to be soooo eeeaaasssyyyyy"
- Her church for surrounding her with "Go forth and multiply" day in and day out for years?
- $deity for punishing her for some transgression she thought she got away with?
Hmm.... blaming herself? I don't see that on the list! Bitter, much?[sarcasm]I'm still a little confused as to what her opinion is. She needs to be more lucid and tell us, more verbosely, how she really feels![/sarcasm] Oh well. To think that just a little bit of thought before going head-strong into a life-changing event such as pregnancy might have helped her. Oh well -- too late now

Well honey, the CF people I know personally and through this discussion group have always used good birth control. Some of us have had one too many pregnancy scares (one being more than enough for me in my lifetime)so we made our CF stance permanent via the snip, a tubal or essure. You and your SO chose to have unprotected sex, now you get to deal with the consequences. Mike[/color] Having kids really f'ed up my body. And I'm still [censored] about it. 8 Me toos, too. Mom, Just because you threw away your life at 19 to pop out an accidental kid doesn't mean that I will.
I am 25 years old - I am old enough to decide to have a child, so why is it so hard for you to accept that I am old enough to decide NOT have a child.
I am going for my sterilization consult tomorrow whether you like it or not. If you stop speaking to me because I refuse to give you the grandkids you are "entitled to", it's on your head.

09.08.07 9:59a I have two kids. I hate it. I had them because I thought it would I'd make a "great mom," and that my husband would make a "great dad" and that parenthood would be wonderful. B.S. They are two and four, and so much trouble. I HATE BEING A MOM. (me too (22))
Perhaps we should carry a print-out of confessions like this (and there have certainly been quite a few) for those occassions when we're faced with familiar cliches like "it's different when it's your own" or "you'd make a great mother"!

Oh I AM printing it out and keeping in my wallet. Of all the bingos, that's the one I get the most. Thank you for sharing!
