Ok, well i just got 4 budgie's.. One bonded pair and 1 I paired myself. The bonded pair is very lovey dover and the male is alway's feeding her e.t.c, but, he won't mate with her, he prefer's to masturbate on the cage wire.. Is there anything i can do to change this? He is constantly feeding her but neither seem's interested in the breeding box, both are 12-13 month's old. The other pair have been together for about 4 day's, and don't seem to be bonding at all.. They barely will stay on the same perch.. Although the female has gone in the box as i have seen her, she has nothing to do with the male.. I don't expect this pair to breed for a while but would like some more info on this. The bonded pair i was hoping would lay soon as i'm dieing to hand rear some bub's.. Although i don't think this is goin to happen any time soon.. Any advice Mavis would be great.

It seem's i never have luck with breder frown frown frown frown

Is this bonded pair, a "proven" pair, or are they just a pair of budgies that get along well together?

My suggestion would be to get one more pair and then put all 6 birds together and let them choose their own mates. Budgies nest in colonies and I found that I had the best luck if I had 3 pairs together with at least 4 nextboxes available for them to choose from.

Hi Mavis. The bonded pair are not proven they are just bonded but the breeder said that they should lay soon. I saw the male in the pair i paired up myself feeding the hen today so that is a good sighn and she has been going in the box as i saw poop in there and her going in.. What are sighn's that they are going to mate? feeding? Is there anything else. I really don't have the time to look after more bird's or else I wouldn't mind getting another pair at all as I have fallen in love with them..
