What is the temptation of "bad food" that you find it hardest to fight? I really love piroges, and I give into those occasionally. I just make sure that I get some extra exercise in on those days smile

yummmmm, with sour cream ....

I love ice cream! We usually eat the low fat or low sugar ones and if you get the slow churned, it tastes like regular. One thing I've discovered about the low fat ones tho is that they add more sugar to make it taste better!

I also love chips and dip, which are really BAD for you-but taste good. I usually only eat them at holiday gatherings but it's nice to have them once in a while.

PS chocolate is GOOD for you now-esp the dark chocolate so enjoy!

There are actually MANY sugar-free chocolates on the market nowadays which are completely delicious. They taste perfect, just like sugary chocolate. So there's really no reason to eat a high-sugar chocolate any more - if you like chocolate flavor, go with the sugar free variety and enjoy smile

For chips, there are many healthy grain chips out there which are at least better for you than the pure potato ones smile

Piroges would be one - good with sour cream - GREAT with Alfredo Sauce (I'm sick like that when it comes to food)

But I think the hardest for me is CAKE - like really good, heavy, moist cake with thick slabs of icing. Things like cakes, cookies and bars. I definitely have a sweet tooth and am hoping that with the atkins/low carb lifestyle I can break that - I know it's not good for me.

Previously I had been an on again/off again low carber.. but this time I have stuck to the diet for close to 6 months without one single cheat... the difference is now, if I crave something, I work hard to find a low carb recipe or substitute.. Krogers has excellent sugar free ice creams.. and there are pretty good boxes of low carb cake mixes at the health food store.. but perogies *spelling* by the sound of it may be hard to substitute for.. there are zerro carb pre-made loaves of bread on the market including buns, rye and sourdough bread.. which are quite higher in fiber than you may be used to.. but they work great in a pinch. I had a craving for a chili dog.. and I got the hotdog buns, the hebrew national all beef franks *they have no sugar added*, Krogers brand chili *the only one that I could find without sugar, wheat, beans or corn starch*, shredded some cheddar cheese and finely chopped up some onions. MMMMMMMM... it was just like the chili dogs at Sonic or Dairy Queen.. In the end, so long as I don't feel like I'm deprived and like I can't have something.... It's been really easy to stay on my diet this time.

Be well & Happy Substitutions...

P.S. There is also a book called "Living Low-Carb: The Complete Guide to Long Term Low-Carb Dieting" which addresses cravings for different things.. like something creamy, sweet, salty and so on.. and gives you wonderful suggestions that really help squelch those cravings...

I'm getting up the nerve to go back on a low-carb diet. I tried the Zone many years ago and dropped 30 pounds quickly. Atkins sounds like something I can do and keep up with it, but in the induction phase I am going to miss coffee with cream. Of course I love all the sweets and carbs you all mentioned but I've been slowly weaning myself down (indulging a bit over the holiday though). I've gone down to half caf coffee but I still love sugar and cream in it. Artificial sweeteners tend to make me feel ill with bad headaches.

So, did any of you find it hard not to cheat with your daily caffeine in the induction phase?
