I found a good article on long-distance relationships called
How to Keep a Long-Distance Relationship Hot. I found it while searching the internet, since currently my bf is teaching in Japan right now.. for a whole year and I'm really not looking forward to it :-( But it was an interesting and helpful read, so I just wanted to share it with anyone in the same situation :-)

Stella.

I have a friend who teaches english in Japan. She has been there over a year now and just got married (yesterday) to a wonderful Japanese Man (Gaku). And she's going to have a special present in about another 8-ish months.

I hear it is a beautiful place. It's too bad you couldn't have gone over with him.

Long distance relationships can work out -- I was involved in one for 2 1/2 years (12 years ago) with the woman who became my wife. I live in Virginia and she lived in Michigan - a good 12-13 hr trip one way.

The keys are: visit as often as you can afford (and make the visits, say, a week if you can -- I was lucky enough to be able to do this), keep the path of communication open and frequent, and, most importantly, get to know the other person inside and out (mentally and emotionally, I mean). Either one of you will be moving a long way to be with this other person day in and day out, so trust your instincts.

I've now been with my wife for 10+ years, and it has worked out perfectly for us. That is not a guarantee that every relationship will work out, but if it is meant to be, you'll know it.

Yes - long distance relationships can work. I've been in one for over 12 months now.

It is hard work - but I find that we talk so much more than we would if we were in the same place. That talk, and constant communication, is vital to keeping our relationship alive and strong.

But then, communication is the key to keeping any relationship going well!
