I know some people will veiw the victim as being cold - but I applaud this woman for not backing down. I only hope that she will get some counseling and be able to put this somewhat behind here.

Quote:
Some of Thomas family and friends blamed the youngsters actions on drug abuse that they said began when Thomas was just 12 years old. They said Thomas needed help, but the judge was not moved by pleas for leniency.

Where was this support when this was going on? Richardson asked about the alleged drug use. Why couldnt it have been stopped when he was 12 years old?

I so agree with the judge on this! If the family and the boy had taken responsibility when he was younger, this entire tragedy could have been avoided.

I am not at all moved by the it wasn't his fault excuse. I struggle to see how drugs forced him to rape a woman.

Well I'm glad this [censored] was convicted. Though the woman sounds rather irrational. 'Stole a part of me I can't find anymore'. Really the only inherent psychological effects of rape are in the direct fear of what might happen during the event. Once it's over, it's only the woman who chooses to torture herself for that long. I know women who have been raped and didn't even go to counseling, they just naturally assumed that some [censored]'s [censored] wasn't the authority over their worth or happiness.

I don't think her response was irrational. I do think women process things differently. And much has to do with the situation she is in, how society around her views this..I mean really views rape and what kind of support she has.
