It seems like my backyard is either a hot-bed of activity or a ghosttown. Yesterday afternoon, it was abuzz, so I stood in the back door and counted from 3:00-3:15PM and this is what I saw...
4 chickadees
1 juvenile cardinal
1 starling, molting into adult feathers
4 blue jays, 3 looked to be babies
6 mourning doves
6 house sparrows
2 goldfinches, on feeder and birdbath
2 grackels
5 titmice, 3 were babies, raising a racket
4 purple finches
1 red-breasted nuthatch, on peanut cage
1 white-br. nuthatch, 1st time in weeks
1 downey woodpecker, female
2 chipping sparrows, 1 was a baby
Then, as suddenly as they came, most left...the grackles stayed. As did the 3 squirrels. Some of the blue jays are still developing their head-feathers, which makes them a little easier to tell from the parents. Earlier in the week, I found feathers and signs that a blue jay had probably fallen prey to "that damn cat"...Boy, that really gets my dander up!!! <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />
