I went to a friend's house last Thursday to see another friend who was in from out of state. Hung out with them again all day Friday. I'm now on Day 3 of intermittent bouts of nausea. I was wondering if it might have been something I ate at the amusement park we went to Friday, so I called my friend to ask if anyone else had symptoms.

It was only then that I learned that her oldest daughter had thrown up on Thursday evening. Gee, wouldn't that have been a helpful tidbit of knowledge to have before I went over there?

It's even more annoying because I own my own business, and I have to be here today whether I'm sick or not. It's now almost 2:30 and I haven't eaten my lunch yet because I'm not sure it would stay down. Only 5 hours to go... bleah....

Sorry to hear that Bifumus. We have a friend like that who has 2 kids, and always wants to bring them over to hang out with us, and after she leaves we find out they were sick, and then my husband or I get sick and lose weeks of work. Or, she'll have a party and her kids are sick, but she just has it anyway. After it happened about 5 times we stopped hanging out with them. Last time she asked to come over my husband said, "Are your kids sick?" and she admitted one of them had whooping cough, so we said no thanks. We work for ourselves too, so get really [censored] at people who risk our health just for their entertainment. Also, my husband has immune system issues, and our friends are well aware of that.

It seriously has factored into our decision about kids. We hate being sick all the time. And parents have to deal with so much more than that, like lice, etc.

Hope you feel better soon.

I just heard a story like this over the weekend. My cousin's MIL came to the house on Christmas and got all of the children sick. Okay, it's the reverse, because the kids caught it. But I'm amazed by how dense and inconsiderate people can be.

This might not sound like it's related, but I hate when people smoke around me, too. It's almost as bad as coughing in my face.

My Mom's friend who has five kids came over one Christmas (because she has a bad relationship with all 5 of her kids) and proceeded to smoke up our house (we are all nonsmokers.) She does that every time she comes over.

Because kids are ALWAYS sick, I think parents know they can never leave their house if they wait for their child to be healthy. But it's still rude. It's another example of what we've talked about so many times - they don't want to change their life once they become parents. I know someone that brought a sick baby to a Superbowl party. Mommy and Daddy wanted to go the party, so they brought sick baby along. Nice!

Thanks for the stories. I guess sometimes people don't think about how their actions (or kids' diseases) affect the rest of us.

I'm actually feeling much better. I took a Motrin because I could tell my body temp was way out of whack, and while my appetite is still MIA, I feel good enough to get some work done. smile

Have a great week!

And let's face it, kids really are unhealthy little buggers. Especially around the time they start kindergarten and then school, they get every bug going, and then pass it on to you. I worked with a guy a few years ago whose kid started kindy, and she was sick pretty much every couple of weeks for a year with something or other, and he'd usually get it a week after she did.

Yet parents think it's perfectly OK to drag the kid to your place and give it to you! "Poor baby is sick, you don't mind if we just bring him over here to sit in your kitchen and cough bugs all over your surfaces, do you?" Uh, NO, the kid should be home in bed, and if that means you have to stay home and look after it - too bad to be you ...

The same goes for people who take their kids to coffee shops and restaurants where they sit and hack up a lung. Ewwww! I don't need influenza A with my dinner, thanks!

My graduate advisor had three small children at the time, who were in daycare. Daycares definitely facilitate the passing around of viruses, etc so his kids seemed to always be sick- and so was he. But he would come to work anyway, and then all of *us* would get it. Yeesh.

Yup. Another friend of mine quit going to the gym we visit because she said they never clean their toys, and her son was always getting sick after going there. At a place like that, it's not just the kids though - it's the adults who go in and snot all over the equipment without a care in the world.

I thought of my friend with the sick kid (the first one, not the one I just mentioned) this morning as I tried to go for a run and ended up walking half of it because I just wasn't up to it yet. This should work well into my half-marathon training <insert annoyed face here>.

I hope everyone has a great 4th of July! Be careful out there!
