Emg, I was looking at your album. Your bettas are beautiful and your tanks are decorated very nicely. How many do you have total? Mine is in a 2 gallon hex just likes yours. My husband and I are also aquarium fanatics. He has a 240-gallon with 10 large veiled angelfish, a pleco, 2 cory cats and 2 almost full grown silver dollars. Here is our list of other tanks: 1 - 55 gallon w/ an oscar, 1 - 75 gallon with an oscar, 1 - 10 gallon w/ small african cichlid, 1 - 29 gallon w/ a small jack dempsey and an african cichlid (believe it or not, these two get along very well), and 1 - 29 saltwater tank w/ a small purple tang. My 16yo son has a 75 gallon saltwater tank with a yellow tang, 2 clowns and a couple of other fish I forgot the names for. Here at work I have the 2 gallon w/ the betta and a 20 gallon with a variety of community fish, mainly tetras.

My betta still hasn't had a BM and is still fat as a marble. OH WAIT, I just noticed some poop hanging out of him (sorry if that's gross). I hope that's a good sign!

Hello Chris,

Wow!! You beat me in the tank arena...lol...

Do you really only have one fish in each of those tanks? LOl..most folks dump as many fish as they can in a tank...me for one..! Is this hobby great or what !

I have 7 female bettas and 10 males at present. Two of the males are from a spawn I did last March. Most of the males I have in those 1 gallon aquascene tanks, which I find work out quite well.

I have a beautiful royal blue short fin (plakat) male in the 2 gallon hex. He's one of the oldest bettas I have and such a frump...lol..but I like him..he always comes up to say hello when I come in the room.

I have begun to branch out into the community tank arena. I keep getting bigger tanks...I don't know how this happens..lol. I started with the 10...someone gave me a 15....then someone else gave me a 20 long..that wasn't big enough so I bought a 29 with a gift certificate that my husband gave me for Christmas..lol.....

Right now I have 2 neon dwarf gourami and 6 long finned danios in the 29..I did have an oto cat in there but moved him to the 5 gallon with my yellow female betta. I have 3 german blue rams in the 15 which I have made into a quarenteen tank. I would like to put a pair of them in the 29 if that will work out. Then I want to make up a Ram only tank with the 20.

I would like to get really good at planted tanks as I think the real thing is always so much more attractive and natural...but I don't know if I can afford the lighting that goes with it..lol. I have live plants in the 29, but the lighting is seriously inadequate. They are managing to hang in there despite that, but they aren't as robust as they could be.

Wow, this post is getting way long...lol..better stop here ! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to babble on about my stuff...lol !

Hello JustL,

No, that 10 gallon is a cycled tank. I only have one betta in there at present because I was having fin problems with the 4 I had in there. I thought maybe 4 betta were too many for a 10 gallon...at the time there was a whisper 10 filter in and no airstone.

I took all the betta out but one...removed all the dividers except for one. I kept one of the end sections and put a Penguin Mini Bio-Wheel filter and an airstone in there...with the plastic canvas divider in place to help keep the current down a bit..poor betta would get washed away to nothing if I didn't lol...that's alot of filter for a 10 gallon but man, that water sparkles.. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I have some flourite substrate under the smooth stones I have in there, along with some live plants and a cave type thing...and heater. So far, the fins on the betta I have in there now are holding together rather well. Much better than before. I think I will try and add another section back in for another betta and see how that goes...but I don't think I will go back to 4 betta in that tank. I'll keep the one end section for the filter and airstone.

Well my new fish, Rusty, is doing well. I am, however, still having problms keeping him warm! I can't figure it out. I am going to try to get a heater today so that hopefully I can keep the tank at a steady 82 degrees. It seems as though I may also be getting my tank soon so I can start keepong cichlids as well.

Hello BG..you don't have to have the temp all the way up to 82. High 70's would be fine. Most of mine hover at or about 77-78 and they do fine. The most important thing is that they don't fluctuate too much.

Have fun with the cichlid tank BG !
