Would you characterize pilates as being a part of yoga or totally different approach?

A friend was telling me about Pilates. I will stick to good old fashion yoga.

Pilates is a whole different approach from yoga. Both are very beneficial. I've done yoga for 17 years and pilates for only 3 years. I love both of them, though i probably love yoga more.

I used to teach Pilates as well. It is completely different than yoga. Both mind-body practices. I personally like yoga better - just my opinion smile

I've been doing both of these for a bit now and love both and switch daily between them. Yoga is less stressing to the body. Pilates is more strengthening and difficult.

I've done Pilates (it is quite difficult). I haven't yet gotten into Yoga, but I am definately open to trying it.

Pilates and Yoga have both become quite "trendy" in the past several years. My health club offers Power Yoga in a heated room as well as Pilates, no machines, just floor excercises.

I love how Pilates defines my body. Yoga is also good if you do an equally intense workout.

It really is personal preference as some people swear by Pilates and some swear by Yoga. If you want a good Yoga experience, check out Mark Blanchard's Progressive Power Yoga. He is a celebrity trainer who will whip you into shape!

I have heard of Pilates and seen tapes but I have not tried it. yoga is fun and I would love it but i am 260 and diebetic so turning myself into a prezel or standing on my head for hours just dont work very well.

I think I would like to try simple pilates and very simple yoga for like seniors! lol

I am dieing to find a Tia Chi tape! now that looks my speed slow and standing up no invertion required!!!
