Go read my latest article The McDonalds Lawsuit, Stella Liebeck, and Stupid Lawsuits at the crime website and then come here and post your thoughts on frivolous lawsuits.

Erika - Thank you for the article.

It changed my opinion.

I have always assumed this case to be frivilous and foolish. But after reading your article and doing a little more research on my own, I do understand this was a matter of medical costs and the inability to pay the mounting fees.

I was also surprised to learn of the cases that McDonalds had put under the shelf for so many years.

Yes, my mind is changed.

Chel

Chel~
Your welcome~

Amazing is it not, that for years I heard just barely knew none of the actual facts of this case. The words McDonalds Coffee and lawsuit would get me ranting about frivolous lawsuits and "some idiot woman that put a cup of coffee between her legs and it spilled and she got burned and blamed Mickey D's and now wants alot of $$$$$$!!!!"

No one ever tells you she spent 7 days in the hospital with third degree burns, required a skin graft, now has over $20,000 in medical bills and that no where is there reference to her setting the coffee between her legs. She was taking the lid off, to add cream and sugar to the coffee.

Also that McDonalds coffee was consitenly hotter by 20-30 degrees than ANYONE else's coffee. That they brew their coffee at average 205 degrees and pour it at 190. If I remember right they tell parents to set water heaters at or below 120 degrees to prevent scalding in bathwater. Doesn't water boil at 212 degrees. No wonder they had over 700 previously settled cases related to coffee and burns.

After 30-40-50-200 you might think a major corporation would may
be start to think something needs to change.

Doh!

Exactly. And, I never knew there were "before" cases, as well. I wonder if they had any employees burned?
