Deborah, those are great suggestions! My niece had her 5th baby last year and when I saw her last week at a family picnic, she looked incredible! She had lost 45 pounds. My daughters and sisters-in-law were asking her how she had done it, as I walked by. I heard her answering, so I had to stop and listen to see if she had done it in a healthy way. It sounded like she had! wink

You said, "Try to have a snack mid-afternoon if you can. Try high-protein nuts (very portable--portion one-ounce in a snack-sized ziplock.) String cheese or peanut butter or some lunchmeat will also give you a protein boost. Add some Rye Krisp crackers or an apple for some fiber and that should take you to dinner." She said that basically she "grazes" through meals by having small portions that she can "snack" on, like you mentioned above, but she only eats during the mealtimes. She does have a "snack" during mid-morning and mid-afternoon, so that doesn't let herself get hungry or let her metabolism slow down or stop. smile

For instance, she said for breakfast, she cored an apple and had cubed cheese in a baggie that she would munch on while she dropped her kids off at the sitter. Then for lunch, if she went to a fast food place, she would have a sandwich, but take off the bread (or bun) and eat it like a lettuce wrap, meat and cheese. She would have nuts or fruit, etc for a snack both mid morn and mid afternoon, and a regular dinner (she said whatever her husband fixed, without the bread or carbs (no potatoes, rice, etc). I liked the part about her husband! laugh

Anyway, someone asked her if that was the Atkins diet and she said "no" because she has all the fruits and vegetables she wants and she did not do an "induction". She said it was her version of the "South Beach" diet. The point of "grazing" was to keep your metabolism always burning. Hey, it seemed to work pretty good for her. I have been eating my fast food sandwiches and tossing the bun and it's not bad, just a little messy. wink

Who wants to lose weight? Here is an invitation to dig deeper.
Tell me what you think (this is posted on another thread, so excuse if you have read this):

I am former chronic dieter, three years ago I lost my last 30 pounds(yes, that was it for me). My new lifestyle of exercising regularly and eating well is non-negotiable. Bottom line- struggling got really old. When I started to believe that my life was worthy of much more and that I had an infinite amount of power to create possibilities for myself, things began to shift. This was really about honoring what was most important to me and the life I really wanted to live. I was tolerating the status quo and that made me angry, really angry. On my new journey, each day continues to present successes and challenges, but I feel in total control of the outcome. This is my story and I remain curious about what really is in the way of others experiencing permanent weight loss. I invite you to take a look at my blog to experience a slightly different spin on they way most of us think about diets and weight loss...but you know what they say-thinking and acting the same way rarely leads to different results. What would be possible by looking at your situation from a different angle?

Here is a link to a post on my blog that might be of interest:

For me, I dont want to "diet" I hate that word. I just want to not eat as much [censored] as I do. I do eat fruits and veggies and I dont eat white bread - I usually eat chicken or fish sometimes steak and extra lean beef but I have a hard time not eating fries, fast food, sweets, chocolate, etc. I figured if I just ate more healthy food in place of the [censored] then it would be easy but its not... I LOVE the food I eat... well, I love the way it tastes at the time. But then I find myself regretting eating it right away.

You get "addicted" to sugar, fat and processed foods so you do feel you need it. After you get your body cleansed of all the garbage, you won't crave it anymore.

Try vitamin B supplements for your nerves and drink lots of water to flush the junk out.

I'd also suggest reading up on what this kind of food actually does to your body. You might not want it as much! Especially the long term effects. It's said that more than 80% of "age-related" diseases could be prevented by a healthier diet and exercise. Just think - it isn't a matter of whether or not you'll live to be old- you probably WILL live to be old. But how do you want to feel when you get there? Do you want to be spry and energetic or sitting in a nursing home letting others take care of you?

I'm a true believer in healthy eating and exercise however when I it that 'mid life' age (ouch) I just kept getting bigger and bigger. Not happy!

I tried all sorts of things. Nothing worked. Anyone else relate to that?

In the end I simply gave up figuring it was just a hormonal thing and I'd have to live with it.

Then a friend asked if I wanted to try healthy cleanse program. Not wanting to be rude but VERY sceptical I agree.

First week..nothing. Zip. Thought yeah right here we go again!

Two weeks later I was stunned..as my jeans were getting baggier and baggier.

Long story short. I shrank nearly 2 sizes in just over 8 weeks.
Talk about excited!

Well hope that gives some of you hope and encouragement 'cause it IS possible.

Enjoy the journey.

Even when you get to mid-life, you don't have to gain weight because of hormones. Eat healthy and exercise and the weight will stay down-things may shift a little but it won't be as bad-lol.

So I was most grateful to have found something to counter the process. smile
