Eczema means any kind of dermatitis.
But commonly do people call atopic dermatitis as eczema?
Can anybody tell me?

Eczema, aka atopic dermatitis, is usually caused by allergies. Often eczema sufferers are also asthmatic. Fortunately, there more medications on the market now to help control it. We have had great success with topical prescription skin medications like Protopic and Elidel, in combination with allergy shots and an asthma medication called Xolair. Relief can also be obtained after having allergy testing and eliminating known allergens from the diet/environment. Be sure the allergist is board certified, and if the patient is a child, that the allergist is certified to treat pediatric patients. For anyone living in the peidmont section of North Carolina, I highly recommend Hickory Allergy & Asthma Clinic. The doctor and his staff have helped us tremendously over the years.

I have had eczema my whole life as well as asthma and never referred to it as atopic dermatitis. I do get contact dermatitis and the seborheic dermatitis in the scalp. I just went through over a month of dealing with steroid induced rosacea, which is curable compared to typical rosacea. I thought I was going to have to get laser therapy.

I am using elidel on my face and cortaid on my arms and hands and legs. I just read on the eczema yahoo group a mother write about her 2 year old child being taken away due to the eczema, they said she was not treating it and her daughter had been in the hospital.

I hate taking prednisone for the eczema since I call it the nasty pill and it makes you gain weight. There is a national organization for Eczema and they have good resources.
