I think that all the flack about the dropping birthrate is pure hysteria. Historically populations rise and fall due to various factors: famine, war, genocide, environmental change, colonialism, disease, etc., many of which are interrelated. The same news sources doom-mongering about the falling birth rate also report on population explosion in other nations and the influx of immigrants. So it would seem that those so concerned about the drop in babymaking are a) thinking locally, not globally and b)not interested in seeing population increase due to immigration, only birth. That leads me to think that at least some of the hype is based on good old fashioned xenophobia and racism. Keep the foreigners out, or they will take over! Have more WHITE babies!

I was reading your post really fast, and where you say "colonialism" I read "cannibalism. Too funny! Cannibalism can't be good for the population, either smile

I think you are probably right, they probably only want a certain type of population. It will all come out in the wash. America has always been a melting pot, and will continue to be.

I think the main difference in birthing trends comes from developing versus developed nations. I believe the downtrend in breeding is present in developed nations. I could be proven wrong, but I believe that's generally true.
