After a couple of weeks of having my nose pierced, I developed a keloid ... I wasn't too fussed by it, but I went to my piercer and had the stainless steel stud changed to a titanium stud. She also told me to dilute a bit of aspirin and put that on my nose for 10 mins twice a day (anti-imflammatory properties) ... that didn't work.
After about a month of having this bump on my nose, that was neither growing, nor shrinking, the lump got a black spot on it. I knew that you could get those black spots from wearing silver jewellery, but I had a titanium stud in, so it didn't make any sense to me. I took the stud out and went back to my piercer. She told me to put 3% hydrogen peroxide on the lump, which should get rid of it.

A week later and my nose is nearly back to normal. The lump turned into a horrible looking scab, but fell off and now it's healing nicely.

I want to get it pierced again, but I'm scared I'll have the same result. Is there anyway to reduce the chance of a keloid occuring?

Thank you for not being perky

People tend to either have a tendency to form keloids, or they don't. Since you've had one before, that makes you more at risk to get them if you get pierced again.

You could try wearing a ring and see if that rubs the edges of the piercing less, but you'll still be at elevated risk for keloids compared to anyone whose never had one before.

What were you cleaning the piercing with originally? Also, what kind of stainless jewelry was it? I would ask the piercer if it was 316LVM stainless...also, you might try another shop and make sure that they pierce you with implant grade jewelry and not industrial grade stainless.

hey...i joined this forum just to ask something about a keloid..i got my nose pierced around a year back and it couldnt stop pussing and forming this bump on it..it would go and then come back again..i would usually but neosporin on it..however now ive taken the piercing out as it didnt stop pussing..and its okay if it closes..i cant bother to deal with the pussing nearly everyday..however theres still a bump on that spot...and i went to the doctor and he said it was keloid and that it would take SIX months to go away completely..hes given me an aloe vera and vitaman e cream..the bump doesnt look big and it doesnt hurt either...cant the scar go away any faster?
